Stephen Ames Cruises to First PGA Tour Champions Victory

Stephen Ames, who switched to the new Titleist Pro V1 golf ball to start the season, captured the Mitsubishi Electric Classic for his first career PGA Tour Champions crown on Sunday.

Ames, who was the only player to shoot three consecutive rounds in the 60’s at TPC Sugarloaf, closed with a 6-birdie, 6-under-par 66 en route to 15-under-par 201 victory total.

He finished four shots clear of Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) as Titleist golf ball loyalists finished 1-2 on the leaderboard.

"It's fun, that's for sure," Ames said after the final putt fell in Duluth, GA. "It's the same feeling as any tour that you win on. It's a thrill, it's a real thrill right now."

Ames won four times during a successful career on the PGA TOUR, including THE PLAYERS Championship in 2006.

With the win, the Canadian becomes the 11th player to win on the Web.com Tour, the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions.

Congratulations, Stephen!
