We're on to the second leg of the west coast swing this week, as the PGA TOUR heads west, from Palm Springs to San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open.
A field of 156 players has returned to Torrey Pines GC to compete against the beautiful backdrop of the seaside cliffs in La Jolla.
Over this past summer, the par-72, 6,874-yard North Course was renovated by Tom Weiskopf. The nines have been flipped, with significant changes made to the previous 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th holes – which will now become the closing stretch on the North. The greens have been expanded (30% larger on average), and are less severely sloped, to allow for faster green speeds. All the bunkers have also been redesigned. Though fewer in number, the fairway bunkers in particular have been repositioned to present a greater challenge to the pros.
Despite these changes to the North Course, players know that the stiffer test will still be found on the Torrey Pines South Course. The par-72 layout will play at 7,569 yards this week, with the bulk of that length distributed among some of the toughest par-4s on TOUR. Add to this the undulating greens and lush rough that awaits errant shots and the South Course offers an early-season preview of major championship conditions.
Good luck to all of #TeamTitleist this week!
