Good advice. I think we all play a golf ball based on how it feels coming off the face of the club and how it reacts with each club. It seems you have tried three different balls, which do you like the best? That is what really matters and how you score with the ball.

Golf clubs aren’t what make or break scores as much as we want to think or to blame as we do most of the time.
Golf is played with those six inches between our ears. It is a tough mental game and if think our clubs are holding us back, then those six inches of doubt will allow that to happen. Those chili peppers will appear out of now where after that awesome drive, when a birdie or eagle looks promising or when push/pull an easy birdie/eagle putt. Playing loose and not worrying about what's in our bag is when we seem to play our best, not realizing what the costs of our clubs (arrows) are.

The first step to becoming a solid golfer is to perfect the basics and to seek good advice from a good teaching pro. Buying $1,000+ in clubs isn’t going to instantly transform me into Dustin Johnson or Jordan Spieth. Like to think they would.

“It’s the Indian, not the arrow” quote… The saying is used a lot in golf and a bit on this site as well and there is a lot of truth to it. "It all comes down to a individual’s ability to do the job and not relying on tools." The tools are a necessity, but if you cannot use them....what good are they. Even with a Grand Master Bowman, who has worked very hard and highly skilled had not attained their art, the arrow will not hit it's intended target with such a high degree of accuracy. Just saying, with respect.

I posted a reference to archery which of course has to do with arrows. Arrow spine is similar to golf shaft flex. A golfers swing speed and shaft flex will determine his proper ball fitting. His favorite ball will fly differently with different shaft flexes and swing speeds. An arrows stiffness or flex has to match the bow weight it is loosed from.

The golfer is the Indian and the proper ball fitting, matched to the golfers shaft flex, is the arrow.

If you wish to shoot your best scores then I would suggest either Pro V1 (mid flight) AVX (lower flight and slightly less spin) or Pro V1x (higher flight and more spin)

I am a 15 handicap and the ball is the biggest factor in the equation... when you are a mid handicap golfer, you need spin on the greens as we hit less GIR and are scrambling quite often will never argue that fact and all of the time I either have Pro V1 or AVX in my golf bag I hit a high ball and the AVX helps to bring it down some...

I’m in the same boat as you are! I went from the Bridgestone RXS to Prov1. Now I get people to tell me that I need to try the AVX! So I have to admit I’m having hard time choosing which one I need to go for before the tournaments kicks off later this month!

i tried a sleeve of the AVX today and LOVE the feel on full shots, didnt notice a discernable diff in length with fiull shots from the the Pro VX or VX1. did notice the lower spin rates on approach shots and around the greens. however the feel off the putter was velvet, not quite as soft as the older wound balls but much better than most modern distance balls. also helped with getting a more 'penetrating' trajectory off the tee.

I have tried a great number of different brand and level of golf balls and so far Titleist pro v1x has worked well, as long as I do my part.

Titleist is #1 for a reason. The best choice of golf balls to fit every player.

I’m 66 years old with a 5 handicap. I have tried almost every premium golf ball on the planet. And I always come back to Titleist ProV1. I like the feel off the putter and driver. Trajectory and spin are just right for me. I suggest you purchase a sleeve of ProV1’s and a sleeve of ProV1X’s , play 18 - 27 holes with each and make your decision. Then play that ball every round year round in all conditions. And have fun.

Do the online fitting with a ball fitter(?). I did it a couple weeks ago and it was GREAT. They really dive into your game and your wants/needs. You even get 4-6 balls of what the fitter deems best. It's the best thing outside of an in-person ball fitting IMO

I'd get a ball fitting from your local Titleist Fitter.

I would go to your nearest golf facility with TrackMan or GCQuad and hit many balls with different clubs to test the numbers & performance of each ball.

Each player hits each ball differently and so it's important you find out for yourself which ball works best for you.

Not necessarily. ProV1 is great for feel and overall performance but you might consider trying the ProV1x for a bit more height and spin around the greens. It will feel firmer which might take some adjusting but if you are after some extra yards, should help you there. It all boils down to what you trust and what you feel works best for your overall game. Good luck and enjoy.

I am a 12 HDCP and have used the V1x and the V1 this year....the V1X did not work for me but the V1 was amazing!!!! go to the V1 and dont look back......best ball ever made IMO

I am 75, 15.3 handicap and hit the ball pretty good for my age. I was fitted a few years ago and have been playing the Prov1 every since. Like the distance, accuracy and feel. Golf balls are like clubs, that are all about performance and feel. And no two golfers hit them the same way. At my age I play from the senior tees and enjoy the game. Leave my ego in my SUV in the parking log. I play golf for the love of the game. Have three holes in one with the Prov1 and actually won a long ball contest at the last TT invitational at Pinehurst with my Prov1, of course from the senior tee.
