I am fortunate that I get to play at least 70 rounds or more per year (as long as my back and shoulders hold out)... As such, I have the opportunity to play a variety of games with my friends out on the links. Mostly we play a mix of Match and Stroke play games depending on how many of us show up on a given day. Last week during a post season opportunity to hit the links, we decided to play with just three clubs in order to work on some skills. We could each choose whichever three clubs we wanted but were not allowed to bring our drivers or a putter ! I chose my 4 iron, my 7 iron, and my 48 degree wedge. Interestingly enough, having only those three clubs forced you to think your way around the course a little more than usual. Proper lay-ups on some of the holes would give you a more comfortable shot with the clubs in hand. What was most interesting to me was my putting. I shot an 82 with only 33 putts :) I used my 4 iron as my putter and made 4 putts from around 15 feet. I very seldom do that with my putter ! I am curious if others do something similar to help you learn to make shots instead of just hitting the ball ???
