While I have played infrequently for years, I recently started to focus on my game more and replace some very out-of-date sticks. (For reference, I was still using a Vokey Chrome 200 Wedge Sand wedge from roughly 2000).

The only club in the bag that isn't "fitted" is my putter, and I constantly struggle with the one I bought off the rack before I even knew putter fitting was even a thing.

As the subject suggests, I scheduled myself for a putter fitting and have no idea what to expect. Does anyone have good tips or things you wish you'd known? Is it any different from a Driver or Iron fitting? Should I bring my current putter?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Bring your putter.
    2. Come with open mind.
    3. Explain problems you are having and help you need.
    4. Let fitter take over and listen to them.
    5. Try as many putters as they suggest, until the results are what you want.

If your fitting includes a SAM lab setup, the additional information on top of Check’s list is the recommended putters will be those that match the amount of arc in your swing. Like other fittings, there will be give and take and decision on length, lift, and lie based on the SAM measurements. Even grip. I was recommended to use a pistorelo and not a mid to large grip.

Definitely bring your own putter. I did a putter fitting recently and they found that the loft was way off on my current putter, so it may turn out that your current putter is a good fit with some adjustments to lie and loft

Good to know you are getting a putter fitting. A club that you use up to 36 times a round. Hopefully they can help you get your issue straightened out. As mentioned, go in with an open mind. A putter is so subjective and you definitely need to feel comfortable with you decision. Please let us know what decision you made and the process you went thru. After all we all here to share our experiences. Good Luck!

Not sure where you are getting the fitting done but caution on working with CC. Fine for the fitting - I was fit for a Phantom X 5.5 and ordered it from them - 34 inch 2.5 deg loft so not much modification . This is what I received :
35 inch putter cut to 34 - serial number under the grip - had the 35 “ shaft band
Bent to 2.5 but a ding in the slant neck
The weights were 15g as should be for a 34” putter but had a custom “heavy” band on it because it was initially 35”

I kind of got what I ordered - except the ding- but just expected a bent 34” putter . Both the store and the customer support folks could care les . It is now at the custom shop. My advice is to get your fitting , get a stock putter and send it for the mods if you use CC

Thanks to all for the advice!

To follow-up, I did the fitting at Golf Galaxy and learned a lot. For example, I struggled with aiming my puts, and the mallet putter I had made it worse. To make matters worse, I was adjusting my stroke to compensate.
I ended up purchasing a Select Squareback 2 shortened to around 32 inches, and I couldn't be more excited. It offered some of the stability I liked in the mallet but allowed the slight arch in my stroke to flow more naturally.

I will say that I am glad I had done a little bit of my research going in and had a better idea of what I thought might work.

Again thanks to all, and I can't wait to put it in the bag. Now the hard part begins… waiting.

I think you will be happy with your process and getting a Select Squareback 2. It will take some time getting use to it but in the long run you should see some improvements. Hopefully this process along with the new putter will give you the confidence you need. Please keep us posted on your new flat stick. Thanks for sharing
