  1. Just received 2 white sleeves from Acushnet for testing. No markings on the balls except a black circle on one sleeves balls and a black square on the other sleeves balls. Not even sure how they got my new address as I just moved a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone else get these? I think they are a pro v version, however I have not looked closely or been able to play yet. Looking forward to giving them a try this weekend.

  2. I did, looking forward to comparing the two models to see which one is better for my game....as well as the differences for each...

I heard a rumor a new ball was coming out shortly.  I didn't get any in the mail yesterday, and I am a heck of a lot closer to Acchusnet then the both of you, so I guess I am out of luck this round.

You will have to post your testing results on the balls.  Curious why they choose a circle and a square this go-round....Mike / Cathi / Bubba any insight on the reasoning?

    Thanks

I'm guessing they chose a circle and a square so the testers can give unbiased feedback about each ball.

This could be in effect a "Controlled Experiment"....DOH!

    Who has the Control Balls?

    Who has the Placebo Balls?

Are they really what we think they are?

    Cheers!

Very exciting.  I'll be checking my mailbox with great anticipation over the next few days.  How does the dimple design look compared to a Pro V1?  I wonder if they are beginning to test next year's ball.

  9. I just got mine in today as well! I think they are the ProV1 and ProV1x. They have the same feel and hardness (or softness) as the previous ones. I think the circle ones are the ProV1x.

Can't wait to hit them this weekend!

I'd love to test some Titleist  balls. Fairways and Greens. everyone.

  11. I cannot wait to hear more feedback from everyone on the test panel about their experiences and likes/dislikes about these test balls compared to their current Titleist Balls...

What a cool opportunity.  I was fortunate enough to test balls about 4 years ago.  I love that Titleist solicits feedback from average Joes like us.  I look forward to hearing what all of you have to say about the new rock.

I broke out the prototypes at the practice area today.  Hit numerous shots from 125 yds and in from all kinds of lies.  These balls spin well and are easy to flight.  Hit the circle and square side by side along with some 2013 ProV1X's.  Will get some more swings in with irons and woods this week.

I received the two(2) sleeves of test balls a couple of weeks ago, one with the square only and the other with the circle only. I used these for a couple of rounds and submitted my feedback as requested. I want to thank Titleist for giving me the opportunity to take part in the testing and returning my feedback. My mindset was far different than when playing my usual game. I found myself extremely conscious of the particular traits that each ball possessed. I also made some kids very happy by giving them the remaining balls and explained it was part of a test for Titleist. Needless to say, they thought that was "pretty cool". Thank you Titleist and I hope you allow me to take part in any future testing. You continue to make outstanding products and your random testing just shows your products are for the masses, and not just the elite golfers. Thanks again.

  19. I am so excited because I also received 2 sleeves of balls today. I cannot wait to play and compare. I play about 4 times a week so hopefully, I'll get a good sense of any differences or preferences in the next few days.
  20. Sunday, April 27 - I tested the balls (I am a tad OCD so kept stats on everything - played both balls on the front 9 of my home course so technically, I played 18 holes - I alternated teeing off with one first and then the other, all conditions obviously were the same because I played them at the same time). I didn't lose any balls so plan to continue my experiment as I play about 5 times a week. My notes so far, I averaged 15 yards further off the tee with the square ball. For my swing, I found the square had a nice draw while the circle ball tended to trail right (not slice but definitely didn't go straight). I shot a 37 with the square and a 42 with the circle. Both felt the same on the putting green. I have never broken 80 before so I am thrilled with my total of 79!!!! First day, I want to know what the square ball is!!! My current index is a 16 and my lowest index was a 13 - I've been playing golf for 5 years. I love Titleist!
  21. I finally broke 80! And I have no idea what ball I used! I am testing again today so we'll see if my stats continue to prefer the square.

well you better figure that out and get yourself a few dozen!

  23. Monday, April 28 - I tested the balls side by side again and because I had an initial bias towards the square ball - I had the golf pro black out the markings and he numbered 1 and 2 without me knowing which was which. Well, I was certain that I knew which was the square because of scoring better (only 2 strokes difference this time) and they both went about the same distance (unlike the first time). I still like them both very much on the greens. I was surprised to find that I actually picked the circle ball the second day. I hit more fairways and greens in regulation with the circle ball the second day. I have still not lost any of the balls so look forward to testing them again = perhaps another blind study. I broke 80 for the second day in a row so that is a huge breakthrough for me! I will note that I had bad allergies and was a bit under the weather on the second day so don't know if my less aggressive swing on the second day played a roll in the circle taking first place that day.

I am a loyal Pro V1X player, but have not been lucky enough to be called upon to be a tester yet for new prototype balls.  Last week in HIlton Head, the PGA tour guys were also testing the new Pro V1s out.  How cool is that that we are asked our opinion just like the tour guys. It is hard to believe they can make the Pro V1X any better than the current offering.

WoW!!   Hit them for the first time today. Gave both balls a work out by playing 36 holes. I'll give a detailed review later but they both are absolutely awesome. I'm a 5 handicap and have played all the  premium balls on the market. These have to be the new pro V's. The circle version is at least a  half club longer than any ball I've ever hit.  The square marked ball which has to be the new X is almost a full club longer off the driver than any ball I've ever hit!   Both balls are crazy long and have that sweet short game spin. If these actually go to market I'll buy 20 dozen. They are that good!!

What you claim is not possible... " is almost a full club longer off the driver than any ball I've ever hit!" unless these balls are non-conforming. It is a fact that both drivers and balls are now (and have been for some time) at the USGA limit for length off the clubface.

I played them alongside a current Pro-V1 and the difference was not close to that much. Same for my 1 Hcap buddy. In fact neither was longer than the other brand he played these against.

While one may be an improvement (and right now only slight improvements are possible) on the current model I think all this rah rah about how they are game changers is counterproductive to the tests we are meant to be carrying out.

We need to be cold and objective about what Titleist has asked us to test. How much better or different are they in the cold hard light of day.

I'll be putting mine on a Trackman tomorrow against the current Pro-V1 and the current NXT Tour S and I'll post spin rates and distances after I test them in a 'lab'.

These balls performed amazing for me.  I played these testers at my club. I've played over 200 rounds there since 2011. I know every landing spot  and my capabilities. On 6 holes I hit to places never reached before on any round off my D3. All 6 of those shots happened on the same day with the testers.   Keep in mind I've played over 200 rounds in a two year period at this club.  Trackman is great but for me and my 913 d3 they flew to spots I've never reached.  Plus they both checked up nicely with  my sm4's on firm greens.  Look forward to hearing your Trackman results.  My playing partner who has been with me for over have those rounds even asked me if they were conforming.

  33. After playing two rounds this past weekend with the balls did anyone else notice the Square Marked balls go higher?

Played the Titleist "square" prototype today for the first time. We had 20mph sustained winds the entire round. I found the ball to be solid off the tee. Maybe 5yds longer. It went off the irons with no noticed difference than the Pro V1x's I normally play. Chipping was very user friendly. I do not spin the ball much but found it the be better than or the same as the Pro V1x. Putting was pure and solid. The ball rolled true and felt very nice off the putter face. The cover held up great. Only one lil blemish that looks like it came from an iron. Overall, the "square" passed my test with flying colors. Looking forward to trying the "circle" next round. Until then. Hit em straight! #teamtitleist

I played both balls today and I too am finding the square marked ball to be slightly longer than the circle. Both balls seemed to feel alike to me off of the clubface.

Got mine on Thursday and took them to work around the green Friday. Then played Disney's Palm with them on Saturday. I won't say which ball did what so as not to skew results for other testers but one is substantially softer than the other. My buddy who is a 1 handicap also hit them extensively on Palm on Saturday and we both had the same take. He shot even and lets just say I started well with a 40 on the front before encountering 'trouble' on the back nine.Needless to say 3 of Titleist's prototypes now reside in watery graves on Disney property.

One is very nice to hit , feels soft, spins great and plays well in all areas. The other has a much harder feel. It sounds much more 'clang-ey' off the driver (his G25 and my R-11) and same off the putter face (his TM and my Scotty) Although it felt harder it played very well but side by side was not as pleasant as the first. Both performed excellent-ly!

I made him hit without seeing which mark each one had to make it a truly blind test and did the same for me where possible. The softer one reminds me of the Pro-V1. The harder does NOT remind me of the Pro-V1x... same for him...

I'm hitting them more this week and will update as I discover more.

Exactly the same conclusions here.  One of them performed nearly identical to the current ProV1x and the other not so much.  I was pleasantly surprised to receive these balls and get the chance to test again.  I don't see how Titleist can improve on the current ProV1 cover.  It can survive 2 or 3 rounds without as much as a scuff.  Best cover they've ever made IMO.

I was a tester a couple of years ago and the experience was great. Titleist: the ProV1 and 1X remain the best golf balls in the world. Not sure how they can be improved beyond durability. Great product, great testing experience. The young staff who came to our area were terrific (and the camera man very brave to get those "face on" shots). Good luck to everyone.

I have gotten some solid time in now with the two sleeves and I believe the square is for sure a new pro v1X. The ball is doing the standard incredible things. It's like a rocket ship when u need it and a soft bird around the greens. The circle, I dunno. Feels hard at times and I wouldn't call it a Pro V1. Anyone else feel the same?

Hey Everyone, I received these test balls also last week. Was able to get out this weekend and play around with them. Circle test ball to me felt best all around, little softer and felt more like the Pro V1X in comparison to the black square test ball which seemed harder than the Pro V1X which is what I normally play. I felt both balls performed well around the green, just felt more comfort with the Circle. Thank you Titleist for doing this! Always enjoy receiving the test balls. Elliott
