alignment putting line

    Is it just me, or does almost everyone put an extended alignment line on their ball with a sharpie?

    If so, why doesn't Titleist just paint that line on the ball for us with a very very thin line or two lines we can color in with the sharpie color of our choice.  I used purple or metallic gold.

    I just love to watch that line roll perfectly in the cup when I hit a great put.  Gives me such a lift!

    Is there anyone who would be opposed to this?  Or anyone who doesn't use an extended alignment line on their ball?

    Personally I like just the Titleist subtle gray printed line on the ball. I don't extend the line with a Sharpie because sometimes I may change my alignment when I stand over the putt. Since the Titleist line is subtle, it's easy for me to ignore it. BUT if choose to use it, the line is still visible enough to be helpful.

    Whatever helps any player be better is best. None of the guys I regularly play with stripe the ball, although there are a fair number of found balls that way. I can line up the ball with the printed line, and then make subtle adjustments when over the ball. The best use of the stripe for me then is to check the roll. Maybe it can be an option in customization?

    I like to use the Magnum Sharpie to draw a ridiculously large arrow (about a half inch wide) on the ball. Its mainly to just black out the "practice" marking or whatever company logo or initials are printed on the ball. The large black marking also helps me spot how well the ball is rolling off the face, or if it is skidding too much during practice drills.

    I tee and putt my Titleist with the name perfectly straight down the target line.

    I must be the odd man out.  I don't use any of the alignment aids on my Titleist when putting.  I have found over the years that for me focusing on the AIM line or Titleist script is a distraction.  I just read my putt and pick an aiming point on the green, place my ball, set-up based on my read and pull the trigger.

    once i started drawing a line on my ball it helped my putting game out tremendously

    I just use the ProV line AIM marker.  It works just fine.

    I use the Titleist word for alignment, it seems to help me and I feel more confident when over the putt.

    I also use the Titleist script for my alignment aid when putting.  I also, use the Titleist script to line up my tee shots as well.  I don't see why this concept has been isolated to just putting when it can help on tee balls as well.  I find that the number provides a small focal target which helps out with more consistent pure contact as well.

    I like the line....I use a red sharpie always (red for red numbers, eh) and specifically use the line in putting. Sometimes, I'll set the ball on the green so that only the front part of the alignment line (or about 1/4th) is visible, but at times I set the ball so that the entire line is visible. Tee balls, I don't use the alignment line at all. I guess it's really a preference and confidence thing, but I think it really is helpful in putting.

    Ive been using a line on the ball for  putting alignment for as long as i can remember.  After one of my worst competitive rounds in my life today, i am done with it.  I feel like the line on the greens is getting me too mechanical, especially on fast greens with significant undulations.  Going to focus on the initials that i got stamped on my prov1x's during the buy 3 get 1 free sale this spring

    I actually putt better with the alignment line underneath the ball with the scripts on the sides, looking down at a clean white ball. I visualize the putt, pick my starting line and set-up to that, then I just focus on the speed it needs to roll into the hole on the line I see. I even use the plain Newport putter (no line), lines makes me too mechanical and I would lose focus on the hole.

    Several years ago I bought in to the Check Go system. After quite a few months of playing 3 to 4 times a week with my balls marked for balance and alignment I realized that my putting had not improved at all and that this was not working for me. Ever since, I pick a spot in the grass in front of my ball about 2 to 4 feet out that will put my ball on the line I want, and for the most part this works pretty good.
    Several of my friends will pick a spot a lot farther out, but I find that is harder to acomplish.

    I actually do not use an extended line or use the grey line that is on the ball already.  I feel like there is no way I can set that little golf ball just right and have that line pointing at my exact line that I want or need to make the putt.  Half the time I have to readjust my line a little bit when I set up next to the putt as opposed to just standing behind the ball and lining it up.  Terrain slope differences etc. come into play then.  I just set the ball with the word Titleist facing straight up at me.
