I'm wondering about the distance difference during summer and winter temperatures with the Titleist ProV1x

My experience is round 5 meters by temperatures of round 0-5 degrees

    Have you got similar results?

    Looking forward to your news

I use a softer compression Titleist during the winter in order to get more distance from my drive.

  3. As strange as this sounds, I use the same golf ball in Ohio all year round.  While cooler temps I realize diminish some distance I still prefer the soft touch around the greens during the winter...

    IMHO

It's not strange, it's smart!  Why change every shot just for some distance?  I'd take being closer to the hole than further off the tee everyday.

If the distance loss is a huge problem, either club up or move up a set of tees.  Also in cold weather areas the HCP system stops accepting scores on Nov 15th.  Don't worry about distance and enjoy bonus golf!

    Totally agree Josh

Why always change the equipment if taking a differen club does the same job

Yes.  Simple physics, really.  More dense air = loss of distance in colder temps.  I generally club up once the temperature drops below 45 F, or about 5-6 C.

I've never actually measured to see how much distance I lose, but it's obvious it happens.  As it gets colder I club up by at least one club and sometimes two.  I think it's more than just the ball though.  For me, as it gets colder, I'm wearing more clothes and my muscles aren't as loose throughout the round. Therefore, I'm not as able to get as good of a swing on the ball as I'd like.  Plus the ball doesn't seem to travel as far in the cold and dense air.  I would guess changing to a lower compression ball would help some, but it gets so cold in the Northeast, you just take what the weather gives you and do your best.  And if the temps drop far enough, you can gain a lot of that distance back as the ball rolls along the frozen ground!

Zero difference here in Florida. But I still keep one ball in my pocket to keep it warm so it flies the same. Hit um straight. Dave...

I play with 2 balls in each front pocket of my pants.  I switch up balls on every shot, replacing with the warmest one I have.  I haven't noticed any difference in distance.  However, I do notice the ball doesn't bite on the cold greens as well.

I have been using Titleist Test balls for the last few weeks here in Indiana. The temps have been any where from 35 to 45 degrees. Te distance has gone down10 to 20 yards. I have clubbed up one to two clubs. As for sticking on the greens I have had to adjust my landing area from 5 to yards. The putting has been consistent.

    Hi all,

I live in the Pacific Northwest (Canada's version of it -- in Vancouver, BC some 3 hours north of Seattle by car).

There is definitely a big difference between the summer time and winter months. The balls simply do not go that far (both in terms of carry and total distance).

The humidity here is such that in the wintertime, it literally is like swinging through a fog bank at times. The balls lose about 10-20 yards of carry and because of the rain and moisture, there is little to no roll out on the fairway. It is made worse by the wind/breeze which can be somewhat brisk and "stiff". Our temperatures drop down to 30-40 degree F range as well.

I normally play the Pro V1x this past year and during the winter months, I do switch to a much softer compression ball - not so much for anything other than "feel". Also, as has been noted by others, it is all the more complicated by things such as "layered" clothing (base layer, mid weight layer and sweater or jacket/vest) which for some reason inhibits my swing, contributing to less balls that are struck solid.

I just try to remind myself that I should just be fortunate to be able to play this time of the year when many of my compatriots in Canada do not get that chance because of the snow.

Over here in the west of scotland i have lost about a club and half sometimes two club lengths in distance in the past month or two. Couple that with the amount of rain we get and extremely soft conditions makes for some thinking on shots
