  1. I recently started taking golf more seriously at the latter end of 2015 and joined my first club in November. I tend to use whatever ball is in my bag to be honest, with no real preference. I've always seen Titleist as the number 1 ball, but which would suit me? currently playing off 20 HC, but that's looking like it should start coming down to 16ish with my recent scores.

It's best to use the same ball all the time rather than using whatever you happen to pull out of the bag. A very good Titleist ball to start with is the new DT TruSoft. It's a very good all-around ball that works well for every part of the game. Another benefit is that it's offered at a good price point, so that if you do loose a couple, it's not too painful. Give it a try, I think you will really like it.
  3. Thank you, I will look to purchase some new balls and start to be consistent in my ball choice, much appreciated.

I recommend you use the same ball all the time. Not sure you can tell the difference but you will as you get better. You will remember how it performs when hitting the green and putting. How the ball flight will be and roll on either wet or dry fairways. You will get used to it and you can work on other parts of your game. Be consistent in your ball choice.

I suggest that you play either the Titleist NXT Tour or Tour S. The S is available in Optic Yellow. This is a great all around golf ball. Use the tools available on this website to learn about the Titleist balls. And once your decision is made, play that same model golf ball all the time under all conditions. Only then, will you be able to accurately and consistently measure your improvements as you continue to work on your swing and game.

Agreed. Always use the same ball. Switching balls will never hone your touch. While most balls today are very durable, I agree that going with something like the DT TruSoft will be a little more cost effective if you lose a few along the way. While I don't know what will happen this spring, but Titleist has, in the past, offered a loyalty program where you buy 3 dozen, they send you a 4th free. Stay committed to using only that ball on the course, around the practice chipping green, and the practice putting green. For all the other balls you find along the way, put them in your bag and use them as additional range balls the next time you hit the range. Get rid of them to resist the temptation to pull one out on the course. Welcome to golf, it's a wonderful journey that will last a lifetime.

I recommend using a ball that helps improve a component of your game. If you find yourself struggling with accuracy from the tee you may benefit from a lower spinning ball. If you need more touch and feel around the greens then you'll want a ball designed for better free side control. I play the ProV1x as its a great balance for my game, but I also really like the NXT Tours. Not sure what you've consistently played with, but give the NXT Tours a try. It's an excellent ball at a great price point for the performance.

    Best of luck.

  9. I would agree that DT true soft is great ball. If you lose a lot of balls then maybe buy them in bulk.

I agree, start with the TruSoft and move into the NXT Tour S. Better to stick with one model, rather than switching balls every other hole or every round. You'll get a better feel for what your ball is going to do around the greens, which will only help to lower that HCP.

If you aren't losing a lot of balls right now, go ahead and step up to the NXT Tour S or even the ProV1. But definitely find a ball you love and stick with it.
