Which ball to use

  1. I went to a "Titleist Fitting Day" at our TPC club. It was obvious to the fitter and me that I was launching the Pro V1 lower than the Pro V1x. Subsequently I read a notice from Titleis that the Pro V1 spins more than the Pro V1x so it flies higher. Okay which is it? Also I won 2 dozen NXT Tour S balls.

I was told by one of our club pros that I would be better served to use the NXT Tour S as it is softer, and I have less than a 90mph swing speed i.e., I drive the ball around 210 to 220 yards. I vary between a 8 to 11 index depending on how often I play.

So. should I be using the NXT Tour S or Pro V1 or Pro V1x?

I think to correctly answer your question you should use the Titleist website to find a ball fitting event. The Pro V1 does launch lower than the Pro Vlx. The Pro V1x has less spin off the driver but launches higher with higher spin rates on the short irons. My swing speed is in the low 90s and I prefer the Pro V1x because of its higher spin rate for my short game. As a player, I think you need to like the trajectory you're seeing off your clubs but the biggest factor is short game control which you get from both Pro V1/x balls. You can't go wrong with a Pro V1/x ball, however; for some, you can be the price point difference that is the deciding factor. Titleist also has a ball fitting guide that you can use while playing/practicing that will help you make this decision if you can't find a ball fitting event soon.

To me, the primary difference between NXT Tour S and Pro V1/x is spin around the green and short irons. If you don't think the greater spin of the Pro V1/x justifies the price premium, then play the NXT Tour S.
