If they are 14 years old they would be the earliest model of ProV1. At least they would be solid balls. The old balata wound balls definitely lost performance after a few months. If it was me, I would use the old ones for practice in a shag bag and get new ones for play on the course. You might even find a couple of collectors that would like to take one or two of those early models off your hands.
  3. Thanks Dale. Was thinking of doing that as well. Just didn’t know whether they were better quality now. John H.

Definitely a different quality. Between grove changes on wedges and the science of reducing spin on drives to increase distance, the surface material and dimple patterns have been modified. You may find the newer balls are likely a softer feel and less prone to go as far afield There will be differences in lift/launch and spin rate.
  5. Thanks again Don appreciate you help. Regards John H.
  6. I have this discussion with a couple guys I play with. They argue that they are not good enough to use a high quality ball. They don't realize the difference. I argue they will never be any good if they continue to hit junk off the tee.
I would definitely invest in new golf balls, and use your 14 year old ones for practise.

Welcome back, John! Glad you're feeling better!

The new ones are definitely better. No harm using them, though, while you get the swing back. Best to you.
