  1. I would most definitely use pro v1s if I could but I feel that it is not necessary at the skill level I am currently playing at. I get they are expensive because of how high quality they are but I don’t take spin into account in my game yet. I plan to by the latest and greatest titleist golf balls in the future when I am a more profound golfer.

Pro V1's & 1x's aren't the only balls Titleist offers, there are several really good Titleist balls that are offered at lower price points. Check out the Velocity, DT TruSoft & Tour Soft balls, I'm sure one of these balls will fall into your price range and may even help you on your quest to be a profound golfer.

No doubt NOrlo! I understand your point, i hate losing golf balls. Like losing a 5$ bill in the woods, but you'd be surprised how much of a difference a good ball can make! Hopefully you enjoy the journey to better golf!
  4. Titleist offers a wide selection of Golf Balls and they have fittings at courses near you. Find the ball that fits your game, not the ball that you see everybody plays on tour! Check out this site - www.titleist.com/.../golf-ball-fitting

Well, actually side spin is not greatly increased by a urethane ball like the Pro-V's. If you tend to go through more than 1 or 2 balls in a round, there is a savings by using a less expensive ball just on ball count. It would be a better investment to actually use that savings to invest in some quality swing evaluation with a teaching pro. Losing one Pro-V instead of 5 low cost balls is both cost-effective and a heck of a lot more fun to play from the fairway than constantly playing "in search of". You can still trial a ball like Velocity on your road to improvement.

All good, if you have an opportunity, get a golf ball fitting, Titleist has less expensive offerings that still have the high quality we expect. Good luck with the game, keep practicing and you'll see improvement in no time!

How about DT TruSoft. A great ball at an economic price. Also, if you hunt around online, you can find Pro V1 X-outs and practice balls. Same quality, great price.

    Welcome to the site NorLo

Good news! Titleist has a Ball for you. May not be the ProV1 or V1x but you can also get the Toursoft, Velocity, DT TruSoft, each a little lower cost and high quality, depending on the features you want. Hope you keep posting and find a ball you are comfortable using

I’m not sure of your skill level but higher quality balls will help you with pitch shots, chips, & even putts. You can buy a dozen of last year’s to save some $$$ and try them around the green and maybe hit other balls off the tee. You’re not supposed to but hey Golf is for your enjoyment.

Your first post on TT is about why you don’t use their balls? Best ball in golf. No question. Find a Titleist ball that fits your budget and build from there.

On a side note; I never thought of losing one of my custom Pro V1’s as throwing $5.00 away. I’m glad I haven’t. I would’ve quit playing them years ago, lol. So true, though. There’s a lot of $5 balls of mine in ponds. So, from now on, I’m going to look at a water ball like I’m putting $$$ into a wishing well.
  11. You can also purchase “overrun” balls for cheaper. Sometimes there are misprints on the custom balls and so they sell them at a discount through places like golfballs.com and similar places. You may get some interesting images or sayings on them, lol. But they are the same great Titleist balls just cheaper. If you get those between holidays and then put the guilt trip on strong to the family to purchase you balls when they have the great deals like buy 3 get 1 free... you should be able to play a healthy amount of a much nicer ball. If you really get shaky around water holes, keep a few recycled balls in the bag for those holes.

I understand your point. But at the same time the cheapest thing we use in this game next to tees is the golf ball and it is the only piece of equipment we use on every shot. If you do the "buy 3 dz, get the 4th dz free" it is $36 a dz or $3 a ball.

I always liked to look at it compared to other things - like filling my tank with gas. That's about $40 and my golf balls last a lot longer than that gas does.

Titleist Practice balls are around $30/dozen. They are ProV1 or ProV1x. Same ball just have PRACTICE stamped on the side. I play them in all but competitive rounds.
  14. If you are worried about losing balls and the cost factor that goes with it, I recommend used balls. The online market has a range of high quality used golf balls from pro v to trusoft at a cheap price. Get pearl / mint or AAA nothing lower unless for practice.
  15. I used to be in your boat too, I played balls I found or whatever was on sale. I felt I wasn't a good enough player to play an expensive ball or even just a consistent ball every round.

I talked about it with a friend of mine and he thought it was funny. He said guys will spend hundreds on a club you hit a few times a round but won't spend a couple bucks on the only thing they use every shot. The ball.

I changed and always use the same ball now. It gives me more confidence standing over a shot knowing how the ball will play. Yes, it sucks when I take a new ball out and put it straight into the bush or water. It happens, but not very often.

My scores dropped and my confidence rose.

Like others have said here, if you want the ProV1 or X there are the 4 for 3 promo's or the practice or used ball options. The less expensive option with Titleist quality is there too. Not everyone I know plays exclusively Titleist balls, but I don't think I've ever played with someone who has complained about Titleist balls either.
  16. It's been said already quite a bit, but I will still give my perspective. I am also not at a skill level that would warrant playing pro v or x. I lose far too many even at the reduced price, and I am on a limited budget. However I have switched to playing Titleist balls exclusively. I but then in my it AAAA condition used and when playing a budget friendly model like the velocity it is less than $7 a dozen.

Once my game improves to a point of losing less than 5 balls a round I will spend more money on balls, but for now at least I can play with the consistency of always using the same model of ball. At the same time still getting Titleist quality, for less than a lower quality ball.
