Hello all,
Does anyone know how one is selected to test Titleist prototype balls? I think this would be a cool opportunity for anyone, and I'm sure that I could help Titleist with some feedback if I were ever to be selected.
Thanks
Charles G. ConnerWinston-Salem, NC
Futurepro17, I'm not sure how we got selected to test the Titleist prototype golf balls, but they are great golf balls. They played longer than the Pro V1 and they were softer with less spin. I can't wait to purchase them in the near future.
Larry SFlorissant, MO
I agree with you Charlie,
I was fortunate to test the prototype and found the same results as you. Really like the ball
Bill RBolivar, MO
I agree, I've been a loyal Titleist user for 15-20 years(bought too many Titleist clubs but I love them anyway) but I'm little peeved that I heard that few people that just bought new Titleist clubs recently for 1st time got some prototype balls while many of us longtime loyal Titleist customers didn't get any.

Hi Bill,Thanks for the post. We certainly appreciate your feedback. Sorry you weren't selected for this recent test panel but there will be more opportunities in the future for Team Titleist members to participate in other test panels. Thanks again and stay tuned.- Team Titleist
Don't mean to sound like sour grapes but wouldn't mind trying some out.
It's ok, I'll just pitch up a tent then stand in the line and wait for them to come out. Ha.

The golf balls are amazing. This is the first thing I've ever been selected to review. Much less spin off the driver and long irons, so they were straighter than the Pro V1, excellent spin on the short irons. Definitely a little harder feeling on chips and especially putts, but I would switch to this ball in a second. Much straighter off the driver. I'd love to know what current ball it most closely resembles because maybe I shouldn't be playing the Pro V1.
Brian MModesto, CA
I must tell you that I hit mine today and they are definitely straighter, less spin off the tee. I hit some bombs 310,several 270 to 290. Normally hit penta or pro v1x 250 to 270. Correct on the harder ball, I can tell on my pith and bump and run shots. great putting as well but harder. I would buy these over any of the other balls.

I don't think buying new Irons has anything to do with it. I have been using my 990's forever and was lucky enough to be selected in the test panel. I think it was more random. I would say just keep your profile updated, and participate in the Forum and keep your head up- you'll get picked for something.
I really liked the test ball.
It took some time to get used to, as the spin was less around the greens, and I couldn't shape my shots as much as I'm used to with the ProV. The ball is way more durable. I played 5 times with the same ball and it only suffered one scuff (took a nice slap from the cart path). I used the same ProV for 4 of the 5 rounds and it's way worse off.
Tee shots- Test ball was longer, straighter, and rolled more. I got a more penetrating ball flight.
Hybrids and 3 Wood- About the same, test ball was a touch longer, and didn't shape as much
Irons- About the same, Test ball was maybe a yard or two longer, and didn't shape as much
Wedges- More spin with the Pro V (check and spin backwards a yard or so) test ball- check and stop
Chips- more spin with the Pro V. I allowed for more roll out with the test ball, and it was consistent as ever. The only time I like the Pro V better was with tight lies and from the sand
Putting- I like the feel of the Pro V. Test ball felt good, but had a click sound to it. I just like the softness and feel of the Pro V
I'm not sure if it's a new Pro V or what. The dimples were different than the Pro V, and the color was a little different too. The first round I wasn't convinced that the test ball was a keeper, but by the end of the testing I'm sold. I will be picking up a box or two of these beauties.

I received some Test balls as well. Funny thing is, I gave the exact same feedback on my survey. I play with the 2009 Pro V1 as well. Don't get me wrong, the Test ball was indeed an excellent ball. For the time being, I'm going to keep playing with the Pro V1. However, I'll keep fiddling around with the Test balls. Who knows what will happen? It would defenitely take some time to get used to but could very well be worth it!

Yup, I played this year's Pro V1, (not sure if it's 09 or 10), and during the first round I was yelling "cut!" or "draw" at the ball from any approach shot I needed to shape. After a little adjustment I could play the shape and loved the ball. Chipping required a little more roll out as well. I'm not sure what ball I got to demo, (it just said TEST) but it kind of felt like a cross between the 1 and 1x. I always liked the 1x better off the tee, but the extra yards are not enough to sacrifice the check and stop, and the putting/ chipping feel of the 1. This ball checked and stopped nicely (where as the 1 would spin back, and the 1x would roll out). Durability is an issue for me as well. I can get maybe 36 holes out of a Pro V1, but the Test Ball seems like it holds up way better. I don't lose many balls so having one that will hold up will definitely let me spend more money on golf and less on balls. I've got enough balls in the shag bag already. The only thing I prefer the 1 to over the test ball was putting and chips with tight landings where I couldn't account for more roll out. Did you feel it had a weird, click type sound when putting too? (I'm a head case I know) Either way it was an awesome experience. To Team Titleist: When all the testing is over, will you tell us what ball we got to Demo (Pro V, 1x, or something else)?

I saw there was a sleeve of the prototypes on ebay about an hour ago if anyone is willing to pay for them.
I was selected to try them and I have never registered a titleist club. Just signed up for team titleist about 5 or 6 years ago and that's it. So, I'd say it's almost certainly random or may have to do with the player profile you filled out. They may be targeting a certain type of player or skill level.
Wow I can't believe someone would Ebay these. People will sell anything now a days.

Avtually it is based upon your activity one team titleist
thanks for the explanation

I compared the test prototype to a b330 rx, it felt the same on approch shots from 60 yards in and on pitches and chips.
the test ball had the same spin on wedges, irons and hybrids also fairway woods. I felt I could control the test ball better from 150 yards in than the b330 rx.
I felt the test ball was longer of the tee about 8 to 12 yards, and with mid irons about 5 to 8 yards. the distants with the shorter irons felt about the same as the b330 rx.
both golf balls felt good, however I did prefer the test ball over b330 rx. note- I thought the b330 rx was a brighter white
based on overall performance of the two balls, I prefer the new test ball by titeist

To all that are asking about the selection process, I myself updated my profile and checked the site, and there was a section asking to register to possibly be selected to test a new prototype ball. I filled out the survey, and received confirmation that I was selected to receive a sleeve of balls. The ones in the plain white box, that was all the buzz on tour a few weks back, when Paddy won. About 2 weeks later I got them in the mail, and there is certain criteria that the tester must answer. I too have been playing Titleist clubs and balls for over 25+ years, index upto, not down to, 11.5. I haven't tried the new ball yet due to rain the past 2 Saturdays here in Los Angeles. Titleist asked that I test the ball on a familiar course where shot selection would be similar to a normal round. I play every weekend and it looks like we'll have good weather this Saturday, so I conduct my test then. Not on my normal course but a tract that I'm way familiar with.
My hunch is that of all those that sign up to test product, that Titleist probably selects from a wide range of handicaps to get feedback from all types of players. They can't just gather info from pros, or single digit handicappers, because the demographic that purchases their products, is the recreational or serious golfer. The pros get they're product for free, and the rest of us aspire to play the same equipment as them, and as the slogan says,"for the serious golfer", and because they make superior equipment. I started with Titleist forged blades and have tried some other clubs, but went back to 681's and am now playing Forged 695 CB's with Project X shafts, custom built to my specs, by Titleist. I've played Titleist balls always, and every generation Pro V1x since they came out.
Stay loyal and keep hitting em.

I tried the test balls last week and absolutely loved them.
Appeared to be slightly longer, felt softer, seemed to launch higher but the trajectory was more penetrating. Definately more durable. Super consistent. The feel of them and the ball flight are my lasting memories. I am definately curious of the compression of them; which seemed to be a little lower.
No complaints here. Will definately be putting them in play.
I would like to given the full review via the survey link that was provided.
Could someone please provide me with the web link so that I can provide my feedback?
Sean FNWeymouth, MA
It sounds like an interesting ball. How was the spin around the green?
David KPinehurst, NC
Unfortunately, unable to tell right now as all of the greens upon which I play were just aerified and top-dressed.

guess i'm a lucky one to receive 2 sleeves 3 balls each, one marked prototype the other prototype , Texas heat hard surface, felt like Prov1 has to offer Bold, the felt like DT Carry but does Not have the deep Dimples they are normal depth, I like these for the soft feel and lots of distance, both are straight flights, great stopping on greens, great rolling putts (stiffer from )and no scuffing. Unfortuntly clean out golf cart threw out box with survey net address,,, any help?
Good luck with the prototypes. I look forward to hearing what you folks have to say. I'm always testing different makes of balls around the greens to see how they perform.
jack gnorth bend, OH
good
I just received two sleeves of some kind of ball. The balls in one sleeve marked only with a red circle and the balls in the second sleeve maked only with a red square. Titleist wants me to play the balls and then offer critical comments about each ball. Why I was selected, I do not know. I do not play Titleist equipment but I do use their shoes and gloves.
ToddLAttleboro, MA
Wow - they must be producing a new line. Wonder if you have the next generation Pro-V's or another style - NXT? Good luck with them!
One would think that they are producing a new ball in an attempt to counter another manufacturer's "play the right ball" campaign. Trouble is that folks that play at my skill level, that don't have a repeating swing, can hardly evaluate a golf ball based soley upon feel and performance. For the record, I played one round with one of them and it didn't go in the hole all by itself.
Ty WebbWilmington, NC
I have no idea, but I would guess it a random draw.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Haven't been selected as of yet.

I was lucky enough to get three balls. All I can say is wow. They are amazing.
glenn hHenderson, NV
The selection, I believe is random. I was selected, the balls are amazing. They have the feel of the best balata I ever struck, but with the response when compressed of tthe most reactive ball that I have played. These are amazing, wish I could get my hands on a couple of dozen..."my precious"......Great job Titleist!!
John JOklahoma City, OK
Well my friend maybe you will be lucky enough to be picked one of these days. I was selected and I am testing one of there prototype balls, and let me tell you it is one great ball, has all the feel of a PROVI and all distance of a PROV1X, IN SHORT IT IS THE BEST BALL I EVER HIT. I took it to the course today and only played nine holes, but out of those nine holes I hit eight out of nine greens in regulation.

What's going on man,
Write a letter to Titleist showing your interest and your intent on participating. Make your high interest level known to them when you write.
Best regards

One of my friends has received the prototype balls. He said he took a couple of the regular surveys and he was picked to use them. He received them around two weeks afterwards but I don't think you can apply to get them.

Good question. I signed on to this site after buying new AP1 irons and registered. I received an email asking if I would be interested in testing balls, and of course said YES. Recieved a sleeve of balls that are marked similar to Pro v1 but they say TEST between the alinghment arrows. Ball is nice, long and really pops off the driver. Cover seems a little harder than Pro v-1, but plenty of spin and control around the green. Ball flight was abt the same for me as the Pro v-1 I normally play.
So how did they choose me?? I have no idea......
Good luck. RF
David AHuntington, NY
Hard to say how you're selected. Probably demographics, good looks, or just dumb luck.
I received a sleeve last week and played them over the weekend. New dimple design seemed to give the ball a higher and flatter flight. Slightly longer than the old Pro V it seemed. Around the greens they were as good as the current model. They also seemed more durable to scuffs. Definite improvement.
Best of luck.
Thomas JElkhorn, NE
I received a sleeve of the new prototype test balls. I thought the feel of the balata was amazing. I am a fairly longer hitter and found it longer then the X. The only thing i noticed was it seemed to scuff a little more on the 60 yard pitch shots. It still had great feel around the green though but just noticed more scuffs on it then compared to the X.
Conor M
does anybody know when the new provs will be out
Michael MClinton Twp, MI
i wish i could give these a try...they sound like the perfect ball for me...longer straighter off the tee with more spin than the X
VicPoway, CA
I tried these balls in a tournament last Friday. First drive was 324, second was 322, which is extremely long for me! They stopped and backed-up nicely on the greens too. I'm addicted and need more. When /where can I get some?
Hopefully, you checked with your tournament officials in regards to your "Test Balls" conforming or not.
When Titleist puts the "test balls" in to production, I'm sure that they'll let us know that the did, which balls were which, and that they'll be available for purchase. Hopefully soon!
James BSan Antonio, TX
I don't think I was selected this time since I haven't recieved any but I will keep my fingers crossed for future tests .
I'm not sure of the selection process, but I'll be playing them today. Can't wait to test them out in my tournament. I'll let you know how it goes.
nicky peldersburg, MD
i heard that it was a random draw and your profile has to be 100% complete
Wayne MRochester, NH
I don't know how the selection process goes, but I can tell you I really like these balls. After playing them today, I could tell you that I would purchased a couple of dozen without giving it another thought. There wasn't a huge difference in distance, but the durability and the control I had was off the chart. I hope they share with us what the ball will be labeled when it hits the stores.
Guest G
How do we get them.
DenoNew Jersey
Just curious.....how are the Test Balls distributed? Is it random luck of the draw? Members with the most posts? Looking for a clues on the process. Have seen a few for sale on Ebay with bids up to $12 @. I wish all members had a chance to test the new ball. Even if addition option of a slight "member fee" is added to those of us who participate on TT, but missed the cut.
Any thoughts?
Mark Sdeerfield beach, FL
Go play lotto, then you can buy the test balls off of Ebay. You have a better chance that way instead of waiting for TT
Michael CCranston, RI
Agreed...I really wish I knew how this process went. I would definitely pay a slight fee to have the opportunity to test out the prototypes.
Ben MOverland Park, KS
It's certainly not based on the number of posts. I've been a TT member for less than a month and I got to test them.
I'm guessing they might set up groups based on handicap and draw out a certain number from each group. I count myself as one of the lucky ones to get selected.
As for the ball itself, I love it. It reminded me a lot of a slightly softer version of the HP2 Tour from the late 90s. I'm in love. Unfortunately I lost one ball already (Titleist didn't tell me the ball would jump off the driver the way it did....310y to the lake off the tee....splash)
Hopefully I can get out and test the other 2 before it gets too cold here in KC...though is it ever really too cold?
Hi all,Thanks for all of the feedback and great questions. In terms of the selection process, we do our best to include as many Team Titleist members as possible in these exclusive opportunities like the golf ball test panels but unfortunately we are unable to include everyone in every opportunity. However, the more you participate and the more engaged you are with Team Titleist, from posting here in the discussions and adding blog comments to completing your profile, the better your chances are at potentially opening the doors to Team Titleist rewards, including the opportunity to participate in future product test panels, take part in exclusive sweepstakes and attend one-of-a-kind events. We're excited to offer more of these Team Titleist perks in the future to our most dedicated members and want to know what other opportunities you would like to see. - Team Titleist

I recieved a sleeve of the test balls. I have completed my evaluation. Where do I log or report my test evalaution?
I liked the ball overall compared to the PROV1 x that I play. However, it was shorter off the driver. At the same time, It spins better on shots under 100 yards and seemed to be very straight flight off all clubs. I need the distance the X offers. If offered a chance to switch to the test ball or the ProV1x I'd stay with the old X.
Please advise where I can submit my full report. Thanks

Aaah so that explains why my experience with the prototype ball cover was different than other posts- there were two versions out there!
Merk
You might be right. We all participate, complete profiles, post comments on blogs and join in on the sweepstakes and surveys just like TT says. Gotta be lucky I guess.
Hi there how can you buy the test balls because i might be interested.
david lDecatur, AL
I was fortunate enough to get a set of the golf balls and the feel, especially from 100 yards in, is great! Is there any chance that will we get to see any summary of feedback? Please let us know when Team Titleist can purchase some!! I appreciate that Titleist gives us a chance to truly be part of the team. Thank you !
matt dDuxbury, MA
i think they just take like the first 30 or something like that
Everyone that got the test balls is rubbing it in. I wish I had some
A slight fee would be all inclusive and give everyone a chance to test the ball. I would think there are enough to go around. Better that than having a 1000 to 1 shot. Maybe 2 balls for $5. Just a thought.
Mike BDuluth, GA
I was fortunate enough to be chosen to test one of the Titleist prototype balls this go-round. Not sure how I was selected, but I have always filled out the surveys Titleist sent out, so there may be something to that theory. The ball I tested was the one with the red number (I'm assuming it is to be the new ProV1x). It has a slightly different dimple pattern than the current ProV1x and I thought the prototype was consistently a little bit shorter on most shots, ran out more on chips shots and ballooned a little at times. It is a good ball, but I think the current ProV1x is tough to beat.
John CSpring Hill, TN
I agree Mike B. I have played the ProV1x ball for 5 or so years. I should have refrained from reading the reviews of the test ball until I played myself. Felt like I got a sleeve of duds. 120 yards and in, chipping and putting are the only things that where a little different (softer). If I just missed it with my irons, it went no where. Tee ball was not really any different than the X.
Cathy ETwo Harbors, MN
I found, too, that my test ball did not go as far as the other balls I tested it against. I played it 3 different times, once against the Titleist So-Lo, once against the Pro-V1x and once against another brand...in all cases I didn't feel like I got as much distance off the tee, but I did feel like the test ball stopped better on my shorter approach shots...and I really liked the feel off the putter. Since I need distance just to keep up with the boys, I probably wouldn't choose this ball over the Titliest So-Lo that I often play or the ProV1x that is my "summer ball" (in MN we only have about 4 weeks of summer!) :)
How come I never get to test anything? I live in South Florida so I play all year round. I can give a great review on any balls or equipment. Just thought I would let TT know.
Thanks,
Mark
I spoke with a team titleist rep and they told me its based on your experience, activity, and other factors depending on the product
Cody DGlenview, IL
thats great....more stuff I didn't know about (haha)
Justinu3Clive, IA
I just received two sleeves in the mail! 1 sleeve the balls say DISTANCE in the AIM area. The other says FEEL. Both say Prototype instead of Titleist.
Can't wait to get them out on the course and see how they play!
I received an email about 3 weeks ago and I filled out some questions. I assume its random selection based on if you're a member in Team Titleist.
As a Marketing guy I think this is a great way to get feedback on product design to make meaningful enhancements.
Gary WWinston-Salem, NC
I think it is a random process once you become a member of Team Titleist .
I received a sleeve of balls early this week( totally unexpected) and just finished playing them. The balls are great and perform very well on the course. They appear to be longer off the tee and offer much better control and spin on approach shots.
The ball feels softer and it's almost like you can feel it compress as you hit it. It grabs the green on chip shots and rolls very smoothly.
