Opinions on RIP 60 shaft?

  1. Hi,

I used the RIP 60 (stiff) in my 910 D2 for a while, but found it a bit 'whippy'. Replaced with Motore F1 65 X - much stiffer.

Now considering putting the RIP 60 tipped 1.5" into my 910F 13.5. But, concerned it may still be a bit 'whippy'.

Love to hear other opinions on the RIP 60 just to make sure I wasn't imagining more whip than it really has...

    Thanks.

    kevin,

i'm probably not as strong a swinger as you since i play a rip 60 reg in my 910d3, but i've found the shaft to play maybe between a reg and stiff.  for me, the shaft is lively and accurate - perfectly between whippy and boardy.  i'm quite pleased with it and have to try real hard to miss a fairway now.

    daniele,

i think your question is pointed to me and not kevin?

so my swing has slowed way down from my younger days - i'm averaging around 86mph.  got a little over the top draw, so after a few swings, i got my setting to b-1.  that keeps the ballflight a lot straighter.  my fitting had a setting of b-2, but on the course, i was hitting smother draws, so i fiddled with it until i settled on b-1.

here are my other average stats from my fitting:

    head - 910d3, 9.5*

    launch - 13.5*

    ball speed - 130

    ball spin - 2300

    carry - 208

    total - 238

yes Fred the question was for you..... thanks for the answer

your number lock very similar to mine and i was fitted for 910D2 9,5* set to D4 (10,25*) RIP60a reg

do you try to set to 11* loft?!? whats happen?!?

    thanks

    daniele,

during the fitting, it was determined that my launch angle was very high (16-18*) which is why i was fitted with a d3 head and rip 60 shaft.  that combo brought my launch down to where i have okay carry, but with a lot of rollout.  we even toyed around with the idea of setting it down to 8.75*, but ultimately left it alone at the standard 9.5*.

sounds like you're completely the opposite of me and tend to have a real low launch.  the d2 head would make sense and i'm guessing that you were fitted to the rip shaft to bring down the spin rate.  i suspect if you set to d-4, you may see your ball balloon real high and fall out of the sky with no roll...probably not optimal.  but the beauty of the driver is that you can set it and experiment with it!  let us know how that goes.

i purchased a 70 gm stiff rip from titleist and this brought my flight down and helped with dispersion . i have a 8.5* d3 in the bag.
  8. I have a R11 with the Aldila RIP 60 Stiff Shaft.  It is nice but feels like the Diamana White Board compared to the Kai'li which feels like the Blue Board.   I lowered my spin rate with the Aldila RIP 60 but you have to be a strong swinger to get a benefit from it....IMHO

Good summation of the RIP 60 for me, too. For better or for worse, I think I prefer a tendency towards boardy now - the Motore F1 65 X will do that to you - but, now it's the feel I'm looking for. I can really go after it and the Motore shaft feels stable - when I swing that hard with the RIP it whips too much for me. Heaven forbid I just swing easy instead of swing hard...

  10. Tested all the shafts available for the D2 and D3, RIP not the same class as the Diamana shafts. I would recommend the Diamana Blue shaft, the shaft is heavier but gice a very good ball flight and very stable. In the wind this RIP is all over theplace nd very difficult to controll.
