  1. Can someone explain what the bounce measurement is on a club and how it effects shots? I am not a huge divot monger but more of a sweeper of the ball. Would the MB or CB be better for me? also, wht effect does lie have on the shot making ability of the club?thanks

Bounce is the angle of the club's sole. If the shaft is exactly perpendicular to the ground at address with the grooves parallel to the ground, the sole is at a slight angle to the ground, with the leading edge slightly up and the trailing edge slight down. It helps determine how the iron interacts with the turf.

If you look at the specs of the MB and CB irons, they are so close I'd doubt many of us could tell a difference in how they act in our hands, just based on specs. I'd look for the opportunity to take a few of each model to the range and simply see which one feels better to you. Personally, between the two, I feel the cavity versus muscle design on the back of the iron would make a bigger difference in how they play and how they feel.

Without knowing your game and talents more specifically, it's impossible to say one or the other would benefit you more, but then the search is half the fun. Enjoy it!

  3. Thanks for the response. I ws just curious if those measurements should be heavily weighed. Im from the old school that thinks "if you can swing the club, it doesnt matter why type you have in your hand" The swing s everything in my eyes. I am a 10 HDCP and ihave played with all sorts of clubs. Ive scored best with muscleback or blades but the feel on a mishit may not be the best :)Thanks!!

The sole of a wedge is everything. So yes you should weigh the bounce angle extremely heavy. The lie angle is meant to fit you and your swing, if it is wrong then you will be hitting toe up, toe down, fat, thin............you won't like it.

If you use a low bounce wedge and switch to a high bounce wedge, you will need to re-learn how to hit a wedge.

  5. gotcha. Im going to hit the CBs and MBs and see whats best for me. Would you think the shaft is more or less important than these specs? I want a club that does not feel "harsh" in any way shape or form.

  6. I am more of a sweeper than a digger. Would I need a higher bounce or low bounce set up?

Lower.  Easiest explanation in a sand trap.  A digger will hit oil without something to make it harder to go deeper.  A bigger bounce will help that.  A sweeper may need to get a little deeper, so a smaller bounce will allow the leading edge to keep digging.  Many of the traps in Wisconsin tend to remain damp so I keep a low bounce 58 degree wedge to pop out of hard lie green side bunkers, and a 54-11 to work out of the occasional soft sand bunker.  Also a sweeper so I don't have a 14 or more degree bounce wedge.
