Just curious to know more about whether many golfers are still using lead tape on their clubs. I'd like to know more about your reasons for using it and your results (does it do what you wanted?). Is lead tape old school?.....or is it still very commonly used?

    Thanks for all replies.

Since you can specify swing weights with Titleist clubs, you won't use it as much, other than to see if you like a heavier swing weight. My wife doesn't play much golf but we used lead tape on her mallet (not a SC) to get the feel she preferred.

I think it is still used somewhat regularly to adjust the swing weight of a club, but more for minor adjustments to dial in the specs. One of my dear friends, who is a certified tech head when it comes to his golf clubs, is always fiddling around with lead tape when he gets a new set of clubs to get the set to the exact swing weight he likes.

When they design the clubs now days, they move the weight around inside the club and use different types of metals with different density in order to get a desired ball flight so I think it is less common than it was in the past when you may have used lead tape for a similar purpose.
  4. I use lots of lead tape on my putter and I have some on my 3 wood as I wanted more weight in the head, especially after getting a heavier shaft.

I have it on my putter & 3W. I cut the 3W shaft down 1/2" and lost some weight so I had to add it back in. My putter I put it on the toe & heel for the same reason cut it down 1" and felt lighter after that. My golf tech uses it pretty often when players want a certain feel.

People love their lead tape! I have some, just havent messed with it yet. I really like the feel of certain clubs while others could use some love. I just need to find the range time to mess.
  7. Hi DV,

Club modification discussions can get confusing and lengthy so I will keep this one short and sweet. Lead tape is something still commonly used for the primary purpose of restoring a club to the original swingweight designated by the manufacturer. Changing to a lighter weighted golf grip on your putter or cutting down your shafts are two instances where swingweight might require restoration by way of lead tape.

Although other players might add tape for a more "personalized feel", I should mention that every aspect of club design is purpose driven, including the original swingweight of your clubs. Hope this helps
