Sure Fit CG weights - adding more draw weight

  1. I am wondering if a change from a 12 gram draw weight to a 14 or even 16 gram draw weight would promote a stronger draw beyond what the 12 gram draw weight would do. My question is regarding just the draw aspect of changing to a heavier weight, and not the change in swing weight, over all club weight or such. Basically, I am just wondering about how the weight is distributed and if the 14 or 16 gram weights will have more of a percentage of weight towards the heel vrs the overall static club head weight, or if the same extra weight is added to the heel in all weight cases (8 - 16 gram) even though the overall weight may be heavier.

I am cutting the shaft down 1/2" or an inch to be determined with a club fitter and am thinking I can compensate for the overall swing weight loss in part by using a heavier cg weight and in doing so want to add to the draw ability of the club.

H'mm - said another way is do all weights (8 gram through 16 gram) add the same draw ability to a club all other things staying equal?

    Thank you,

    Very interesting. Great question!
  3. Hi T.B.,

Great question, and one we get a lot.

Changing the weight will have minimal influence on launch, spin, or overall trajectory. CG SureFit Weights are designed to adjust the feel or swing weight of the club while producing the same trajectory regardless of the weight being used; hence, a 16 gram weight should not produce more or less draw/ fade bias than an 8 gram version.

If you are cutting 1/2" off your driver and want to maintain the standard swing weight the 16g version should be used. The 16g weight at -1" should swing weight 3 points less than standard.

    Hope this helps
  4. Thanks for your reply Chris and additional info on which weight to use. I would presume then from your reply that each 1/2" off the butt end of a 917 D2 driver shaft would equate to about 3 swing weight points and the equivalent of about 3.5 grams of weight on the club head.

  5. Hi T.B,

Yes - you are correct on the amount of weight needed.

    All the best
