I presently play 915D2, 915F 3W, 915F 5W, 816H1 21*, AP2s, Vokeys. Everything is fine with this set up. Love the FWs and the 816 21* is extremely easy to hit. However, I was wondering about replacing my 5W with an 816H1 17* hybrid for a little more versatility from challenging lies.

I'm looking for feedback from anyone who may have replaced their 5W with the 17* 816. I don't want to lose distance, and though I have no problem hitting my 5W, I am assuming the 816 is even a bit easier to hit from more varied lies. Anyone have experience?

    Hi Doug!
I imagine it can be different for alot of golfers but I tend to hit my fairwaywoods longer than my hybrids regardless of loft. Usually FW's has a longer shaft which for me can generate a ton of more speed. That being said, I would rather use a hybrid as I find them easier to hit in general and as you stated, more versatile. Go get fitted and see the difference in distance and your strikes/shot shaping. Otherwise it could all be about guessing.
    Hope that helps!

Good question, for me I was thinking of getting a 816H1 17° to replace my 915F 3W 16.5°.

I have a 816H1 23° & 19° and hit them between 205 & 225. I hardly use my 3W because consistency is a factor which in turn hurts my distance. I'd rather lose a little distance and get more consistency personally. I've hit the 816H1 17° with a D-1 setting and get about 245 which is a little shorter than my 3W but more consistent. The demo I hit off the tee and varied lies during a couple of rounds had the shaft and grip I would use. Hope that helps!
