What’s up you amazing golf ball wacker guys and gals! Wondering if anyone has changed the lengths of their irons.

I have a pretty messed up lower back that is far more noticeable with my short irons (8. 9, PW, 52, 56) Thinking about lengthening them all to the same as my 7 iron.

Has anyone experienced this? Any big changes on performance and comfort?

Problem with changing to single length is the varying lie angles. Long irons will be too flat and short irons will be too upright. You can have them bent up to 2 degrees but that might not be enough. That's why you see a few companies that sell single length irons, spec the heads out totally different from their normal sets. Also impacts swing weights. That said, whatever you need to do to feel better and keep playing is worth investigating.

Why don't you see if you can try a set of single length irons from a manufacturer. I think that would be better than lengthening out a standard set.

In addition to the lie angle issue there is the issue of swing weight- lengthening your 56 degree wedge to 37" would increase its swing weight at least 9 points and would need a 18 gram decrease in head weight to offset this increase. Your other irons would of course have the same issue to a lesser degree- for every 1/2" increase in length swing weight increases 3 points. Although it would be shame to abandon your Titleist irons I would agree with Frank's suggestion and would recommend you look at Tom Wishon's new EQI-NX single length irons- at their 265 gram head weight they would be considered to be 8 iron weight, but, at 37" 7 iron length with a 100 gram shaft they shouldn't be too far off in swing length from your current irons.
