  1. Good evening, I just picked up a used set of AP1s and the longest iron in the set is a 5. I already have a 3 wood I am comfortable with but don't know how I should plan out the gap between my 5 iron and 3 wood. I know 5 woods aren't as common now a days but I am also interested in a driving iron. Any ideas or suggestions?

I personally like using hybrids to fill the gap but there are multiple options for every different preference. Lots of guys use 5 woods including me in the past. Others like the utility irons. You should find some “loaners” and figure out what works best for you. Hit’m straight and stay safe.

My bag is loaded in the wedge department, so I don't have very much room in the top of my bag to work with. My highest iron is a 24° 5 iron. I have my 3 wood at 15.5° and also have a 19° hybrid. I do kind of miss my 4 iron because of my course layout, but I have been able to manage and actually shoot a personal best of 37 (+1) on the back nine yesterday!

I transition from a 13* 3-wood to a 19* hybrid to a 22* U-510 4 iron before tying into my T-100’s 5 iron. This is a new setup for me but I’m loving it 1 month in. A couple of the courses I play have par 3’s that from the tips play 220-230 yards. In previous years... I never had a club for them. Now I do! And that is making a huge difference!

    Currently 5w, 3tmb delofted, 4tmb then transition into MB’s.
I flip the 3TMB with 816h2 hybrid depending on how fairways run/wind.
Just started 46, 52, 58 wedge set up for more option at top of bag..early days.

Currently my T100 4 iron is the longest iron in the bag, I have a U510 2 iron and then my TS2 3 wood. The 2 iron is pretty forgiving and if my 3 wood is too long I will normally choke up on it and it seems to do the trick.

In the past I have had some older generation utility irons that worked really well and I also carried a 5 wood for a while. Most times you can find stores that carry used/older clubs and most have hitting bays so you can try them out. I would suggest trying a few older generation utility irons if that is what you are looking for, or you can easily pick up a used 5 wood. Best of luck!

    I'd get a 5 wood (18 or 19 degree) and a 21 or 23 degree hybrid.

I am going with the TS 18* 5 wood and the TS 24* leading into my 5 iron. I am a low ball hitter, and these do the trick. Best of luck with your decision...
  10. I did it with the Titleist 816's 3H & 4H not many people were a fan of the silver crown but I love it!

  11. 3 or 4 hybrid for that 200 yard shot or rough will definitely fill the gap

You gotta spend some time thinking about the courses you often play and the yardage of the shots that are currently missing. Myself, have a 3 hybrid in between my woods an irons. I got the 918, had it for a few years and i Love it! I like the hybrid because it can get in the air more easily and it lands pretty soft. But you gotta work out the math! Good Luck

My longest iron is a 4 which is at 21*. My driver is 10.5* and my 3w is 15*. I’m trying to decide between an 18* 5w or possibly. 19* hybrid. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Good luck on deciding which stick to go with!
  14. I go driver 9.5* 3W 15* 3H 19* 4i (718 AP1).

The 3H gives me lots of versatility on the course and the tee.

If you're interested in the dynamics of a driving iron, why not get the 4i to match the set? Will obviously complement the set and help close the gap to your 3W.
