I got 3 SM7 wedges a few years ago, jet black finish. They looked bad-a$$ when I first got them.

I had a black wedge prior and knew the finish would wear over time. The SM7s wore as I would have expected.

Now they are nice well worn wedges - like they earned their battle scars. It doesn't bother me - I kinda like it.

Wondering if others see this wear as a detriment. While it would be nice to have black irons remain true black forever, I assume that is not currently technically possible.

  2. I have the brushed steel finish on my Vokey SM7s, and i enjoy the wear marks in the same way you do. it adds a bit of character.

I however have not preferred the look of black irons. To me it's harder to see the shape of the club from the address position, especially in the rough. Chrome or satin finish helps the profile stand out a bit more when your lying the club down on grass; in my opinion.

I have the black SM6 wedges that I had custom lasered on the back. I love the wear over time as most of the face is still black but the center has worn a sweet spot marking from ball strikes. Gives me a lot of confidence that I will hit in the center again and again.

Hello Andrew, I was born and grew up in Charlotte. I've lived in Kansas City since 1996. Growing up in Charlotte I didn't play golf. I make it back about once a year. Would like to play the next time I'm in town. What are the best munis?

Currently I have black SM7's and black AP2! I love the color. I previously had SM6's in black. The wear has been as expected. The wear on the AP2's have been acceptable. I'm a range guy. I can tell I hit my 9 iron more than my other clubs. As a result it's showing more wear.

I'm very much a Titleist guy. I few years ago I had the opportunity to get fitted at the Ocean Side facility. It was a wonderful experience. The local Titleist Rep. is a great guy. I was having problems with the weights in my 917 Driver and he resolved the problem for me free of charge.

I will say I was dissapointed when they replaced the AP2's so soon after the release of the limited edition AP2's in black. I had AP2's dating back to the 712's. I received the 718's in Februray or March of 2019 and the T100's hit the market in August. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I now see they are offering the t100's in black at $200 per club. My AP2's (4 iron - PW) are in good shape but worth less than $400.00 for the set. My golf budget is limited. Just don't see the black T100's in my near future. I guess this is how taylor made customers feel.

Will Titleist be bringing back the old school Chrome finish, especially on the MB and Wedgeworks models?
  8. For someone that buys and sells clubs like they’re going out of style I noticed that the wear on the black finish is definitely a detriment. Personally I will never use one again and will stick with tour Chrome from here on out. Look amazing in store but first time in a bunker and they never look remotely close again.
