  1. I've always. Played Titleist balls & wedges. I'm looking to get new irons. I'm 67 years young with 8.3 Index. Which is the lowest in my life of 50 years of play. Any suggestions? I'm based in Rochester,NY & Myrtle Beach. Bill

I have a set of T300 irons. Love them. Shot my age (74). I am a 14 handicapper. I have the graphite shafts, regular flex.

    Hi William,

Wow, 8.3 index that's awesome! With that, you could pretty much hit whatever you want. But I would suggest to go and try out all of the irons. Titleist is great and they make an iron for everyone and you can even combo up the different types of irons, so it will better suit your game.

What clubs are you hitting right now? What shafts? Flex? What do you like about them? And what don't you like about them? What are you trying to get out of your next set?

Getting fit after you test out a few heads is the best way to go to help get you 8.3 index even lower. Finding that right shaft and head combination to give you confidence is what we all want.

The T200 might be a good choice for you. From your handicap, looks like you play the game pretty well. The T200s are a players distance iron, so they have a somewhat compact shape while being forgiving and promoting a higher longer ball flight. I have been playing them for a month and really like them (I am about a 10 handicap and heading in the right direction).

If you want something more forgiving you can go with with the T300.

Try to find a Titleist Thursday event where you will have access to all of the club head options and A LOT of shaft options. In advance of that, try the Iron Selector tool on this website, which recommends an iron based on your preferences.

I would recommend going to get fitted. Definitely worth the time and money...

Find a Titleist Thursday and get fitted. If not available at least find a Titleist professional fitter.

I'm 57 was playing 716 Ap1's with a XP90 R300 shaft. I went to a Titleist Thursday in June and was fitted for T200 with AMT Black S300 shaft. Somehow I progressed back into a stiff shaft, & I also figured (IMO) the T300 would be the iron. wrong on both accounts & I love my new T200 irons.

Titleist Thursdays are free and a great way to get fitted. Outdoors and on grass with a trackman.
Not on a mat, indoors, into a screen.

Ball flight is important as is club hitting the ground naturally instead of a mat letting it slide.

I got some 718 AP1 irons last month, and absolutely love them. I had been playing TM irons. The new Titleist irons are really forgiving and I moved up about two clubs in distance. The ball flight is excellent and tracks really nice to the green. The ball seems to just drop and stick. I had just tried them in a golf shop but after reading about the Titleist Thursday, definitely do that!

"Up to 100 grams of high-density tungsten is strategically integrated into the heel and toe of the 5, 6, and 7 irons to lower the center of gravity and launch the ball high and far."

Is there no tungsten in the 8-Wedges? If not, considering these heads are heavier than the 5-7, what is used and how are they weighted from a location standpoint?

    Thanks

If you're a consistently good ball striker, I would consider either the T100-S or the T200. Certainly you should be fit professionally, but I've done a fair amount of consideration myself on the subject and can offer my advice based on my own fitting. And, by the way, I am no spring chicken either. Only a couple years younger than you with a a mid-single-digit index (presently 5). So, we have some similarities.

I came from AP2s. I was fit into either T100 or T200. My numbers were good with both. However, considering my age and the need for a bit more distance as I age, my fitter suggested I would likely benefit from the T200 a bit more in the long run. Personally, I loved the feel of the T100. I had no issues hitting them well. I was on the fence as to which way to go. I finally conceded and chose distance over feel, purchasing a new set of T200s.

Two months later, the T100-S version was released. Their stronger lofts were more in line with the T200, yet their forged feel and size was that of a T100. Though the T200 looks very similar to the T100 at address, to my eye it is a touch bigger. And bigger in my mind is not as accurate. I don't mind the T200 look in the mid-longer irons, but I do in my shorter irons, the ones I do most of my best work with. So, I am ready to switch out my PW, 9i and 8i T200s with T100-S once Titleist is back up to speed with normal delivery schedules. In the meantime, my T200s are absolutely fine. They are great irons. I just miss that comfortable look and feel of my AP2s, so I think the T100-S will be ideal. Similar distance to the T200, yet give me the accuracy I like so much better with my AP2s.

When you get fit, I would suggest you definitely consider a mixed set of T100-S and T200 if you find you hit both heads well. Be sure to mention the idea to your fitter. It won't be something he hasn't recommended before. At our age, a little helping hand (forgiveness) in the longer irons is always appreciated, but in my view more control over the ball in the shorter irons is more important.

And just to reiterate, I qualified my statements at the top by having you ask yourself if you believe you are a good striker of the ball. If you tend to hit it all over the face, then add the T300 to the equation.

I'm 63 7.7 index and play in Connecticut. I tried the T200 and they were nice but not for me. I'm now waiting for a set of T100S. I like the profile of the clubs and with the correct shaft someone with an index like us I think they are just as forgiving. I really like the loft gapping on the T100S as well. I have three SM7 wedges 52, 56 and 58 and with the T100S W wedge being 48 degrees I think everything will fit seamlessly.

Piggy backing on Doug E's comments, you should see a fitter before you choose, but you can't miss with either the T200 or T100-s. If I were to get new irons, I'd probably go with the T100-S.I thought the blade length of the T200 was slightly elongated, and didn't suit my eye as well. I currently play Titleist woods, hybrids and wedges but my irons are png S-55's. I'm also in my mid 60's and currently play to a 6 handicap.

With respect to your handi-cap some golfers are better ball strikers, others better chippers, putters and over all grinders. If you hit a lot of greens, I'd go with the T100-S. If you don't hit a lot of greens and your handicap is the result of getting up and down along with an impressive short game, I'd go with the T200. The added bonus there is the T200 will improve your ball striking slightly more than the smaller T100-s, in my opinion.
