  1. First post! I reluctantly began playing around 4 years after retiring from baseball and not wanting to play slow pitch softball. Fast forward to now and I’m totally hooked and obsessed with the game. I tried a few other brands before making the decision to play the best equipment I could find, Titleist (in my opinion, but I don’t think many will argue here). I’m now playing Titleist top to bottom—almost! I began to really appreciate that Titleist includes LH for most product launches which attracted me even more.

Now that I’ve rocked you to sleep with my intro I’d like to understand how SC launches work. I’ve been wanting to get one for quite some time, but didn’t want one just for the sake of having one and not being comfortable. I play a Spider Tour right now. So a few questions

    1. How do the Phantom 12 series compare? I know the Spider insert will be a little softer, but wondering if anyone has played both of these?

    2. I really love the shape and balance of the X5, do these ever come in LH? I’ve seen a few on eBay but I’m hesitant mostly because I still don’t know a whole lot about SC production.

    3. Any other cool SC facts or information would be awesome!

    Thanks again—happy to be here!

  2. Lefty here and I have a couple of Scotty’s and a spider tour. The phantom 12.5 has a very lively feel to it off the face vs the spider. Both sit square and are easy to aim. I’ve yet to meet a spider player that has ditched it for something else so that speaks volumes to me. If you were looking to get something other than a mallet, the Newport 2 is great as well. Good luck with the choice!
  3. Thanks fellas! I’m keeping my eyes open.

One area of weakness is the LH selection of SC putters. The current line is Phantom 7, 7.5, and 12.5, and Select Newport 2 and Delmar. My best advice is to find a a Cameron partner location that can also do electronic analysis to see how much toe hang weight is optimal for your most comfortable putter swing then see there is one bed suited for that swing.
I love the feel of a SC and have tried to go RH for more options. But LH feels better. I have a Delmar and a Phantom-X 7.5. I need some toe hang so the go-to is the 7.5 and the Delmar has a little more if I’m not closing and pushing to left.
If the current ones do not fit your game, a used Scotty doesn’t wear out. Working with larger online stores like 2nd Swing and Global Golf can come with a guarantee authenticity. Granted there is not a wide selection but can be a fun challenge.
