Upgrade my 716AP1's

    Hi there,

    I am a ten handicap golfer currently looking to upgrade my 716 AP1's and am going for a fitting next month. I have been looking at reviews of your T series irons and trying to decipher which model I should look at. I am not unhappy with my AP1's and I understand they are the most forgiving in that range (and I feel I need all I can get) but I would like to gain a bit more feel if possible (wiithout losing forgiveness). The T100's look fantastic but I am a little intimidated by the smaller head (and potential loss of forgiveness). I'm sure I will get to hit all three models during my fitting and will be guided by the results but I would like any advice/tips you could give me when getting fitted. If it helps, a decent enough strike with my 7 seven iron will give me 160 yards of carry with an 85mph swing speed.

    I played 716 Ap1's and went to a Titleist Thursday fitting and was fitted for T200's & simply love them.

    The lofts between Ap1's & T200 are only 1 degree different, T100 are weaker & T300 are stronger. Profile similar to Ap1's I think is the T300, but not definite on that.

    Is your fitting with a Titleist fitter or a Professional of at a sporting goods store? It can make a big difference,

    Titleist fittings are usually outdoors on grass with a trackman.

    Most others are indoor on mats so you never have a bad strike as the mat keeps the club from digging... So if possible do it outside with a Trackman or good quality tracking device so you get accurate numbers. IMO

    Many thanks for the advice Darryl, it is really helpful. To answer your question, my fitting will be indoors using trackman with a well established and respected club fitter that sells most/all of the main brands. I agree that the T300 is the AP1 equivalent and while I would love to think I could graduate to hitting the T100's I think the T200 might be the better fit. With that said, I will wait and see what the numbers say when I get my fitting. If the T300's suit me best then so be it.

    First is it an indoor or outdoor fitting? I feel that outdoor is better. Second is it a Certified Titleist Fitter you are going to? You have to trust the fitter. The numbers don't lie.

    Many thanks Frank, my fitting will be indoor with a certified Titleist fitter. I will certainly ask about getting fitted outdoor as I agree it is better than indoor.

    Assuming you're going to a true Titleist fitter, he is going to be the best source of advice/tips. The ones I've dealt with make suggestions and show you the results, and it doesn't matter to him what your handicap is or your distance/swing speed. My guess is, at a 10 handicap you are already striking the ball pretty well, and if you're looking for more feel, the T100 or T200 should get you that. He'll be able to show you the comparison and he will leave it up to you on what and when you buy.

    I am very much looking for more feel in my new irons over my AP1's so hopefully the T100/200's will get me there without too much sacrifice of forgiveness/distance.

    Good luck and listen to the fitter. If your ball striking is great, you may end sup with the T100s. I bought used looking at a players distance iron, and ended up with players irons.
