Fitting before lessons?

I’m thinking the fitting I had for my 712 AP2 irons is probably no longer accurate. And while they’re still in great shape, I’m not the golfer I was 10 years ago.

With an index of 9, I recognize that lessons and practice are key to getting better. But I also recognize that I need a bit more forgiveness and the current Titleist offerings may offer just that.

Of course, current supply chain issues are having a major impact on lead times, but what are your thoughts - dial in an improved swing and then get fit, or develop the new swing with new clubs?

Always the "chicken or the egg" question about fitting versus performance. I personally believe there is merit in both. If you have not been fit for equipment in 10 years and father-time is knocking at the door, probably would be good to look into a new set that better matches your current swing. Its not just your own physical issues but the advantage of new technology in more modern equipment. The supply chain issues are real but some components are more readily available than others so you might not have as long a wait as you expect... or it could be longer, depending on shaft, grip, etc. My thoughts anyway... Good luck.

With product shortages, the decision has been taken out of your hands to an extent. If you walk in today for a fitting, you’re likely looking at 3-6 month wait for clubs. (FWIW I’m at month 4 and no one will give me an estimated date any more.)

For now, work with what you have and get fit later.

I got fit first and am taking lessons to get better while I am waiting on my new clubs. Like you, my last iron fitting was for 712 AP2's. During my fitting, my eyes were opened to what is possible as it pertains to launch, descent angle, and carry distance. I will continue to work with what I have until my new stuff comes in.

Just do them both and don't worry about the order. I ordered new clubs and took a lesson. Picked up the clubs on Friday, had a lesson with them on Saturday and Sunday shot my lowest round ever!

Lesson, fitting, hit new clubs then lesson with new clubs if necessary.........work on swing until they arrive.....
