Iron set wedges vs vokey/blade wedges

  1. Hi all,

I am going back and forth between buying a 48 degree wedge with my t200 set or playing a vokey 48. Can anyone provide any insight on differences? Bounce is obviously one but what are the pros and cons of each?

    Thanks all!

I like the Vokey wedge.. The look completes the set of wedges for me!

Definitely a personal choice that works either way. I went with the T200 gap wedge as my other irons are graphite shafts and I knew most of my shots with the 48 degree would be full swings. I wanted it to match my other short irons as close as possible. For some other people, they might like flighting down those shorter shots and if playing similar shafts, might prefer the feel and workability of the Vokey 48. Think about the shots you plan to use most often and pick what works best for your game. Good luck and have fun out there.

I have played the 46deg Vokey wedge instead of my set wedge, i went back to the set wedge, the set wedge offers better forgiveness, and for me more consistency. I am sure the pros love the feel and and they can flight the Vokey.

One other consideration I had was that my 'frequent play' course could present longer bunker shots. I decided to try a 48* Vokey with some bounce instead of the set matching wedge as I felt I might need it for longer bunker shots. The Vokey fit this purpose nicely but wasn't quite as versatile as more bounce made chipping from tighter lies a bit challenging.
  6. I agree with Dale. If you plan on using it more for full shots, I recommend buying one that matches the set.
  7. If you pitch and chip a lot with it = Vokey. If you are mostly full shots match you irons

To each his own on this one, but I preferred the PW and Gap Wedge that came with the set, then Vokey's for the succeeding wedges after that, but keeping the same shaft in all irons. I also prefer my wedges 1 deg. flatter than the other irons in the set.
  9. If you can play the Vokey's as consistently as the T200's, then either way shouldn't be an issue. The cast of the Vokey's isn't going to go probably as far as your set T200's forged face that shoots off like a rocket! So if you can go get fit, find a degree and grind that you can hit 110-115 yd full shot.
  10. Hey Hi

It all boils down to what you want a club for - to benefit your game .
For me I use the standard set wedge (Titleist CB ) irons as i want to keep the gaps between each club the same distance .
Now the Vokey are my scoring clubs - touch club if you like - which can be smashed if required. These are use for multiple array of shots - but getting close to targets is its roll. For that reason use a 52 and 60 - the 52 is the workhorse - high low etc .
Used to carry a 42 but four it to be redundant as the club set was more useful ) For the fuller shot ) AND the 60 is a must as always during a round height is needed.

That said all to their own - if it helps what u use at the low end of your kit - u sacrifice at the top end - long irons .so the ones u carry be sure u use them or that space is wasted for something that could benefit you more.
Just what I do - find what is your best configuration - will build confidence as that speciality club u use most of the time

I’d recommend going with the matching wedge if you play on using it for full shots. The Vokeys allow for more customization. I’ve always felt more confident around the greens with a vokey in my hand, if I am hitting anything other than a full shot.
