Does anyone have any experience playing the U505 in a 4i (22 degrees)?

I am a mid-high handicapper, and I currently have a little bit of a gap between my 3 hybrid (19 degrees) and my 5i (23 degrees). Admittedly, I struggle to hit my 5i well, so the gap is arguably more between my hybrid and my 6i (26).

The U505 caught my eye in the store and reminded me of an old launching iron I had years ago. However, most of the reviews I’ve seen online are from better players hitting the U505 in a 1, 2, or 3i.

Obviously, a fitting is crucial before I’d make any final decisions. Still, as a higher handicapper, is this a club I should even consider in place of another hybrid/fairway wood?

    Thanks Team!

  2. I currently have the 22 degree U505 with the Atmos Blue Tour Spec 85S. Fantastic club! Great off the tee on short
and tight par 4s and really solid off the deck. Ball flight is nice and high. Very playable club.

Thanks! I honestly have seen anyone say much negative at all. Surprised there isn’t more marketing around it.

Not sure what clubs you have, but I’d recommend getting a game improvement 5 iron before a UI. If you are hitting game improvement clubs, and still have issues hitting your 5, I’d recommend taking some time to learn how to hit it better.

When I have my game improvement Callys, my 4 iron was one of my favorite clubs to hit.

Thanks! I really appreciate the honest feedback. I am playing game improvement irons now, and thinking I should probably just be patient and practice more!

You should also take a look at the T-200 utility iron. Fantastic clubs. Try to get on a launch monitor and take a look at the numbers.

I added the new T200 in a 5-iron and 4-iron to my bag and I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance of both. The new T200 long irons are modeled off of the U500s. The U505 would likely launch a little higher than the T200s.

I have the 22 degree U510 and it gaps perfect between my 19 degree hybrid and 24 degree 5 iron. I'm a senior golfer with a 16 handicap and I was told the utility irons are for better players, but after working with it a bit the U510 is one of my favorite clubs in the bag.

You should work with a fitter to fill in the gaps. That will find whether another hybrid, a U505, or a T200 is the best alternative for distance, dispersion, and consistency between 6 iron and 19 hybrid.

I play the U500 in a 4i head, bent strong (by Titleist) to 21*. I added a Graphite Design Tour AD-UT 85 gram shaft in it and I have to say, it is one of my favorite irons to hit. Sometimes I am more confident in it than my T200 5i, which frankly, I feel I also hit very well. I am amazed by the accuracy I have with it, both off the tee or off the fairway (or short rough for that matter).

You describe yourself as a mid-high handicapper, so I would not necessarily recommend the U500 to you. However, the U505 is a bit more forgiving, while last season's U510, is even more so. Try them both to see if either works for you, or maybe consider a TSi hybrid. I play a TSi3 20* which has to be my favorite hybrid ever (and I've played virtually every Titleist hybrid launched since 2008). The TSi1 or TSi2 in a 21* or 23* could be a perfect fit for you, particularly if you are confident already with your 19* hybrid.

I use a 3 U505 as a sub for my 2021 T200 4 iron every now and then. Just depends on the course and what I expect to play out there.
