  1. I bought a set of Ap2 714 irons when they were about 2 years old but in near new condition. I noticed at the time some slight flaking of the chrome on the 8 iron but was not that obvious. I'm not a regular golfer, probably play less than once a month, and all the irons are still in great condition. However the 8 iron has deteriorated significantly and has more flaking and pitting of the chrome. I know the clubs are a number of years old now and out of the normal warranty period. As this is obviously a defect in the manufacture, is it possible to get the 8 iron rechromed or replaced by Titleist.

You can call customer service to be sure, but the warranty is for 1 year from the original sales date. They were beyond warranty when you purchased them. The 714’s were released 9 years ago.

Devil’s advocate - could it have occurred as a result of abuse by the original owner?

How do you know it is a defect of the manufacturer? Hitting rock can separate the chrome from the steel and then if water gets in between it will flake. Do you hit your 8 iron more than the other clubs? You bought them when they were 2 years old from a trusted retailer or an individual seller? Could be a fake as there are a bunch out there. Titleist cannot replace an iron they have not kept in production for 8+ years, there is no shelf stock and they are not a repair shop so they do not do rechroming. Every set wears and wears more on the more frequently played short irons. You can take it to a golf repair shop and if they think something is unusually wrong with the original material, they might contact Titleist on your behalf. They can probably verify the authenticity too.
  4. AP2 714 is a good, however I love taylor made golf M6 driver. www.golfauthority.org/.../ This is available at reasonable price and provides a crazy ball speed.
  5. Hope you will find it helpful.
  6. Personally I love TM M6 Driver, because this is affordable and gives a crazy speed to ball. www.golfauthority.org/.../ here is a guide you might find it helpful when buying a TM.
