  1. Hi all. Just after a bit of advice. I have just come back to golf after a 6 year hiatus (was on a 13 h/c). Currently have 915 d2 driver, 915F 3 Wood, Ap1 716 irons and a Odyssey putter.

I am more than happy with the Ap1’s, they are rockets and hit well!

But i am looking to move to AP2’s. I used to run with miz JX 825 pros. I do miss the forged feel hence why i was looking at AP 2’s.

Just looking at my options to get a 2nd Hand set of irons and was wanting a few opinions of the 716 vs 718. I am wanting the forged feel and a bit of forgiveness/help. Also here in New Zealand I have limited options and can see a few Japanese versions on our local auction site. What is the difference (if any)?

Not a whole lot of difference between 716 and 718. Much different as the T100 came out. Problems with picking up used AP2 are: no warranty, potential knock offs, worn grooves. Welcome back to the game and hope you find something that works for you. Have fun out there.
  3. Cheers. Fantastic answer. I was thinking of the t100 or 200 if I could get my budget to allow. But was reading mixed reviews in terms of forgiveness. Most said ap2 were in the middle of the t100 and t200 and I saw the 716 ap2 for a good price locally.

But yep I sure know about fakes. Leant the hard way…

718 are much better performing than the 716... even the 714 were notably better than the 716. Most who have played all consider the 716 to be a bit of a "miss" in the series, as they lack the feel of the other versions.
  5. Cheers for all of the advice. Have decided to forgo the ‘forged’ and have got a set of AP3 irons. Really looking forward to trying them out!
  6. I have the AP2 718 and I love them!

718s look better IMO, but if you are willing to get 718s and currently hit APs, maybe try the 718 AP3s

I had the 718s for about 6 seasons and I absolutely loved those clubs. It was just time to get some new ones for me, or I would still be using them!
  9. As said by others, there is little difference between the 2 sets in terms of playability. Personally, I never liked the look of the 716s and preferred the look of the 718s.
