Just purchased a set of T200(4-PW). Now I’m up for purchasing woods next. Previous sets always consisted of driver, 3w and 5w. I’ve noticed a lot switching or replacing there 5w with a hybrid, as I’m leaning to do the same, what am I looking for in a hybrid? Thanks for your help!

You want to make sure if you switch, you get a loft that correctly fill your gap between the 3 wood and your longest iron. Everyone is different so finding what works for you is better than going with all our opinions. A fitting would be best. If on your own, remember that the same degree loft on a wood will go further than the hybrid due to shaft length and overall mass. Ball flight will be different too. Best of luck and hope you get dialed in to what is best for you.

Lower lofted hybrids are also harder to elevate and usually don't let the balls hold the green. Do a test fitting to see if the hybrid will give you the necessary descent angles to hold the green compared to the 5 or 7 wood.

Getting fit is most likely going to give you the best answer for your game. But since you asked for opinions, here is another - depending on how well you do or don't hit your 4-iron, and what you use that club for, you may want to consider keeping the 5 wood, dropping the 4-iron, and replacing that with an appropriately gapped hybrid. I resisted for a long time before I went with a hybrid. When I did my testing/fitting, what worked for me was replacing my 4 iron with a 21* hybrid. It rather nicely fills the gap between my 5 iron and my 5 wood. The hybrid is easy to hit out of the rough and great off the tee when its needed, and if you use a fairway to do some chipping around the green, then a hybrid is a great bonus as it works there as well.

My current set up is Driver (TSi2), 3 wood (TSi2) and 2 iron (U505). I ran a hybrid for a while and transitioned into a utility iron in the bag. Feels more controllable for my swing and definitely made a difference, especially with the specs on the simulator when I was fit on it. Maybe have a utility iron in the mix when deciding between hybrid amongst others…hope this helps

    Try a 21* 7 wood vs a 21* hybrid. A set of Driver 4 w and 7 w is also a good combination.

I'm like Chris. Have a hybrid and a 3W, but went back to Titleist 2 iron also. Always was a long iron man, back to my favorite club always being a 1 iron. BUT.....take the advice......get a fitting scheduled to figure out not only what's best for your game but best for your swing too. It'll be worth the effort

I opted for 3HL (16.5) and 7 wood (21) - i tried hybrids and couldn't find a shaft/head combo i was comfortable with and now i'd never give up my 7 wood. Like others have said, look for something with loft to get it off the ground and make sure it gaps well.

You cannot believe what difference having a hybrid can make for your game.

I’d recommend ditching the 3 wood and picking up a hybrid. It’s very possible that you hit the 5 wood straighter and just as far as the 3. Lou Stadler the stats guy says the stats bear this out. Nice problem to have.

  14. I agree with the comments above. First off fitting the club to your bag is ideal. If you opt not to do the fitting make sure it is gapped well. I also did what "Brian D" did and i dropped the 4 iron replaced it with a 21 degree Hybrid. Perfectly gapped for my game between my 5 iron and my 5 wood.

I wouldn’t replace my 5W with a hybrid but perhaps my 4 iron with a hybrid. Just make sure your loft gaps are consistent. Hope that helps!
  16. If you decide to go hybrid Titleist makes some of the best. I’ve got 2 TS2’s that I love. Several generations old now, but too reliable to think about switching them out.

Ditto. 5 wood and 23 degree hybrid are TS2’s. I did pick up a TSR 19 degree too.

Hi, for me, I prefer a 16,5 wood over a 15 and a 21 deg fairway wood. The reason is more high and easier to hit. This is holding the green more.

If you prefer a hybrid, I also find that the 21 degrees has more utility than a 19.

But before buying, get fit for it. This is the best way to decide what you prefer and what is really working.

    Best regards,

I just recently put a TSR 5 wood in my bag to fill the gap between my 3 wood and 3 iron. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. Finally used it on course Monday. So much easier to hit off the deck than my 3 wood and almost goes as far, except off the tee. I chose the wood over hybrid because I just hit the wood better. I'd say hit them both and see what feels/works best.

I bought a 4 21 hybird and a 5 24 hybird and took out the 4 and 5. The pro where I play said wedges are important as well so this would allow for 52 54 and 60 wedges. I like a previous post bought a 16.5 and it reall setup my distance.
