  1. Hello all,

I have recently started scoring consistently in the low 90s / occasional high 80s after starting lessons at the beginning of this year. When is the right time to get fit for clubs? would it be worth it for a (around) 15 handicap golfer to get fit? Will I likely see benefits?

Also, are there any Titleist fitting recommendations? Club Champion? Titleist fitting event at local club? Benefits/Cons to either?

    Thanks in advance.

You're ready. If you're committed to improving your game, it should be the number one choice. If you want to play Titleist clubs, my recommendation is a true Titleist fitter and do it outdoors, unless you plan on playing most of your golf on a simulator.

Fittings are valuable for any player, regardless of handicap to ensure you have clubs that maximize your abilities and physical characteristics. A bad fit and you might be making a compensation in your swing. You can use the website to search for a fitting near you. Fitter, like doctors, can be okay or great, so do some research to get someone you trust to do the best job on your fitting. Good luck. Enjoy the process.

Where can you score better? Short game with wedges? Eliminating 3 putts or reducing 2 putts under 10 feet? Hitting greens from over 120 yards out? Keeping drives in the fairway? Any club(s) to improve a focused area for improvement are worthwhile. Can your coach recommend areas where better matched clubs will help?

In general, updating clubs won’t change your handicap without a focus on changing a weakness to a strength.

Naturally, you always have the option to get new clubs at any time. It helps if you tell the difference between a want and a need.
  6. I would say hitting greens from more than 120 yards out would be my biggest struggle from your list.

I think it's very beneficial to get fitted. I was a 15 handicapper playing with clubs I bought off the rack and shooting in the 80's/90's pretty consistently. I got fitted at a Titleist fitting event and ended up purchasing the T300's back in early 2020 (right before the pandemic, yay). Since that time, I've shaved 5 points off my handicap and am consistently shooting in the low 80's and even broke 80 with a 76 once. I definitely think it's worth it for a mid-high handicapper to get fitted.

I think the major benefit is getting fit with clubs that will help your game, both in improvement and enjoyment. The only con I had was not pacing myself during an iron fitting and was absolutely exhausted by the end of it...

Do a Titleist fitting event if you want Titleist… stay away from club champion, it will cost way more
  9. Thanks for all the replies! Will definitely be booking a fitting sometime soon.

You are definitely ready and overdue for a Titleist fitting. When I first joined a club I didn’t realize how important and beneficial it was to get fitted (I was at 16 handicap). Now, I won’t buy a club without getting a fitting by our Titleist fitter. I’m down to a 5 handicap. The experience is always great and I recommend you offer your personal feedback to your fitter with every adjustment.
    All the best!
  11. Thanks for the advice!
