    What is your minimalist setup that you would throw on your shoulder when walking the course and still have effective gapping? 915D2 12* driver Diamana 62S 44" TS2 18 fairway Diamana 72S 41.5" TSR1 23 fairway Diamana 72S 40.5" TS2 27H Diamana S70+ S 38" T200 8 iron (34.5) T100S 9 iron (39) S200 Wedge lofts 46-52-58-64 Scotty Cameron Select Squareback.

I have 5 & 7 woods. Right now the 5W and I are at odd with each other. I have 3 Vokey 50/54/58. Then there is a 48 set iron. So I can take out the 5W and set 48 for a total of 12. For a Sunday bag for a par 3 course, only 6-7 clubs and 3 balls.

My thumbnail is my all around playing bag. I’ll put in my 910F 7 wood and 816H1 27 in place of the fairways and hybrids and pull the L grind wedge for 10 clubs. I’ve played the Presidio back 9 with driver-7W-27H-32-39-46-52-58-64 and putter.

I could probably take 5W-27H-8-9-46-52-58L and P to National City. I can still make the green in 3 on the 2nd hole teeing off with a 5W. Definitely need a 64 wedge at Tecolote Canyon and Balboa Park Exec.

I don’t need the L grind at Riverwalk Presidio since the bunkers are soft. I’ve played it with a 10 club carry bag. I can make the par 5s in 3 with a drive, 7 wood and a short iron.

I have alot of freinds who do this and limit their clubs when playing with their sunday walker bag. Personally, I am allowed 14 clubs and will take advatange of all of them.

I played 13 this morning (brought my 7 wood along with my 18 fairway). Also, if I want to tighten up the middle, will put in the 25 hybrid (just awaiting a 6 gram head weight). Occasionally will bring my Dad’s Bullseye putter.

Totally agree with you here. I hate when I wish I had a club and don't . Carry all 14 and you'll never be without! IMHO

I’ve deemed July as Push Cart Month. August is Carry Bag Month. So far, I’m thinking of keeping all 14 in there. Then, I’ll see how it goes. And, oh, yes, there is absolutely nothing like walking. So much more in touch and connection with my game, the course, and my thoughts.

Actually to tighten things up, I replace the T100S 9 iron (39*) MB 8 and 9 irons (38-42). Replace the 54-12D and 60-06K with 54-10S-58-12D-60-06K for courses like Torrey Pines.

I played on the high school golf team in 1973 with 3-4 woods, 3-5-7-9 irons and a Haig Ultra Dual Wedge.

I usually just put the whole set in there. It's tight, but workable. If push came to shove, I'd drop my 50 degree wedge and one of my fairway woods.

My bare minimum set of clubs I’ll take out the L grind wedge and use the 910F and 910H in place of 5W thru 27H.

When I carry instead of using my push cart, my setup is typically TSi3 driver, 19 and 25 degree hybrids, 7-PW T150, 54 wedge, and putter.

Sorry I kind of got a bit lengthy in my latest post, but I think the gist is whatever works best for one's game and to work with limitations. My stepmother played for ages with nothing higher than an 8 iron in her bag. Carried a 7 hybrid. She managed to shoot in the mid 90s. I tried to put a 3 wood in my bag since COVID; threw the towel in about 6 months ago. My 910F 7 wood and TS2 5 wood now swing exactly the same (41.5", approx 59* lie angle and D2 swingweight). I started with 46-52-58-64 (with 54-10S, 58-14K and a PM Grind 64) in 2020. 816H1 25 and 27. It is nice that Titleist now makes a 9 wood with the TSR1 23*; frankly it was hard to swing Callie before because the lie angles are a bit flat. Tried D and T grind wedges over the past year. Here I am, back to K grind for a sand wedge at 58* with L for hard pan. Also back to using S grind bent to 52 for a gap wedge. Played the 695MB 9 and P until 6 months ago. I've been faring better with 48-10 bent to 46. When COVID started, was using a 46-10 bent to 44*. Tried to make 21 and 23 hybrids work. Well... the 9 wood is back.

Correction: the lengthy post was in another thread about gapping. My bag lofts are 13.5-19.5-24.5-27-33-39-46-52-58-64. For a Sunday or carry bag, I remove the L Grind. I can use the 7 wood in place of the 5 and 9 or a 25 hybrid in place of the 9 wood and 27. I'm more used to playing the 7 wood and 27H combo. I also still have my 716CB 7 iron(32*)/MB 8 iron (39*) combo to alternate with the T200 8 iron (33*)/T100S 9 iron (39*). I can play the K grind off just about any lie because it is bent 2* strong.

I just use a push cart, I can use all 14 clubs and it keeps the weight off of my shoulders! I high recommend push carts, I walk every round I play now and this has kept the strain off my body!

I have a Titleist Sunday bag and carry a Titleist driver, 3 metal, pw-5 iron Vokey wedge, a Scotty putter, 2 Pro V1's, three tees, sun screen and an energy bar. I will turn 81 in June and hope I don't have to remove any more clubs. I refuse to take any type of cart.
  17. My set-up when walking and carrying: titleist D3 driver, titleist t2 3 wood, titleist tsi2 41 degree hybrid, titleist 6-pw t100s irons, titleist vokey 50 degree wedge. scotty putter. If I am walking and using my push cart, I take a few more clubs.
  18. Limiting yourself on golf clubs can be a challenging endeavor. If you are looking to carry and not push a trundler, then consider learning how to hit knockdown shots and full swing shots so you won’t need every mid to short iron in your bag. For example, you could, drop the nine iron and learn how to hit your eight iron a little less to get what you need.
This is definitely an individual thing and I’m quite sure that you will find the balance. If it is a long course then obviously you will need a lot of your longer clouds, and a shorter course would be the same type of adaptation.
From past experiences, it has been beneficial to remove some irons from the bag to learn how to adapt shots and control the ball with a modified effort swing during practice rounds.
    Best of luck!

I've actually played some of my best golf with driver-7W-27H, 7&9 irons, 48-56-64 and putter. Even with two 58* loft wedges (K and L), I carry 12 clubs. I can go to 10 clubs by using a 7 wood in place of the 5 and 9 and removing the L grind wedge. I carried a 7 wood and 27 hybrid for quite a long time. I had a choke down shot available for both. I basically threw in the towel on carrying a 3 wood. I do very well with an 18 fairway.

I played on the high school golf team in 1973 with 3-4 wood, 3-5-7-9 irons a Haig Ultra Dual Wedge (got it for $20 and used it until 2007 when I started playing again after not swinging a club for about 4 years) and a cheapo blade putter. My dad handed down a set of X/31 irons 2-PW in 1979 and I played those until 2007 (I constructed a set of Snake Eyes irons 8-SW and had a 31-35H from Pinemeadow Golf). I had a persimmon 28 fairway and 34 hybrid from Louisville Golf between 2010-2012. The 10/28 was a go to club for 165 yards and I could hit the 34 hybrid 150 yards.

Now that I’ve adjusted my lofts of 8 and 9 irons to “stock” this offers “Sunday bag” options. Driver-7W-27H-34H-9, the forged wedges shown, 64 wedge and putter.

My thumbnail is all 14 clubs. The attached image is the clubs that hit the best. Up until 2015, carried driver, 7W, 27H, 34H and 8-PW plus vokeys (SM4 54-11M, 58-06L and 64-07T). The T100S 9 iron is 40* loft so, for all intents and purposes, it plays like an 8 iron. I still have 716CB 7 iron and T200 8 iron (which appears to have slipped flat on the lie angle). My wedge gap is 46-52-58-64. The Sumo hybrid hits ok off a hard lie. I'm contemplating reshafting the 716CB 7 iron to S200 and standard length. The T100S is standard length. I've been playing a set of 695MB 7-P for 4 years. So what comes around goes around. What matters at the end of the day is what's on the scorecard.

Last update: my thumbnail shows what I carry RIGHT NOW. 11 clubs that WORK and also reflect my 2013 set makeup (when I first broke 80). The first image is my backup wedges. If I want to go to 3 wedges, the SM6 60-12K will replace the 58-06K and Phil 64 (no intent at this time since both are a "one-two punch"). If I play Torrey, take out the 56-12D (bent to 54) and replace with the 54-10S and add the 58-12D. The 2nd image is an 8 iron that I'll have assembled next week (DG S200 shaft with 65 lie and 37 loft). The 7 wood and 9 wood have been pretty vicious on the golf course. I just got the 58-06K about a month ago and it hits well off hard and soft lies; also cuts through thick grass like a sickle. I just changed the shaft length to 38.5" on the 5/26H and the headweight to 3g. Kind of on a plateau. I bent the lofts on the 54-10S and 58-12D back to stock after finding out how well the 56-12D works with a 54* loft.

What's on my thumbnail is my dialed in playing bag. What makes it an "unusual" setup is the 9 wood, 34 hybrid and the 64* wedge. Lofts of the bag are 13.5-20-23-27-34-38-40-46-52-58-64. 58-12D and 58-06K are the high/low bounce bunker options. I have both the 58-06K and the 58-04T Wedgeworks available. My spare wedges are a 50-12F (48*) and 58-14K (56*). My Sunday bag would be the driver-9wood-26H-34H-9 iron and wedge lofts of 48-56-64 plus the Scottie.
