What are your suggestions for a range finder. I know the price levels are all over the place but what's the best bang for your buck?

  2. My personal favorite for overall is Leopuld 3Xi, I've had mine for 4 years and it still works just as good as the first day I bought it. Slope isn't something I need so I didn't spend the extra $100 for that model. Replace the batteries, take care of it and it will last forever. If you do run into issues, Leopuld's Customer Service is supposedly top notch but I've never had to use them.

    Hi Chris M.
Well ... the answer to your question is kind of like whether I prefer a "spoon" or a "fork" ... as in which do you prefer when eating your hearty soup.

To be frank, I think that there are some terrific range finders out on the market. From both Bushnell and Leopold.

I personally prefer the Bushnell and I use the Tour V3 model as it comes with" jolt" technology to let me know when it is locked on to the flagstick/target. In my opinion, it is a great value as it is more affordable than the Tour X with adaptable face plates (1 for tournament legal status the other for calculating slope which is not tournament legal).

The range finders are very effective at allowing you to pick your target and avoids having to be charged up like a GPS unit/watch and does not require course information to be uploaded onto it -- basically, it is a what you see is what you get kind of device.

I'm sure that you will hear from plenty of others about their preferred unit! All the best in your range finder deliberations! Would like to hear your thoughts when you do decide or if you decide to "pull the trigger" and purchase!

I have both a GPS range finder (Garmin G6) and recently purchased the Bushnell Tour V3 Laser. Have had the Garmin for 4 years and it has been great. All course updates are free. It is not their latest model so you can get a very good deal. Purchased the Bushnell because I wanted to get distances to pins on the range for practice as teeing areas are moved back and forth routinely to allow grass to rejuvenate. I have typically had some difficulty in being steady enough to get a lock when I have tried other models, but a member of my Saturday group recently purchased one and let me try it. I was able to get locks on the pins without any problem. The jolt technology is quite nice. This, like the Garmin, is not the latest model and you can get a very good deal for $249 right now at any golf shop.

Love my Bushnell Tour Z6 Jolt, small, accurate, love the jolt feature and it is tournament legal. Bushnell and Leopuld make the very best on the market. It is all about choices and what you want in a product. These two brands are the two top end range finders and last, plus their feedback is instant and very accurate. Do not accept second best!!!! Nothing but the best in my Titleist bag. Check consumer reports.

Got to agree with Tim. Leupold 3xi is my choice. l have had it for 5 years. Well really the one I have now only a little over a year. I had one, the previous 3 model, at least, and it stopped measuring. Looked like it was working but wasn't. Sent it back and asked them to look at it and fix it for me. Got a brand new one about 2 weeks later, no charge. Customer service superb, up there in the same catorgory with Titleist. I like the LED display as opposed to others with LCD

I have a Leopuld and I love it. You probably can't go wrong with a laser finder but thats just a guess. Once you play with a laser finder you won't be able to play without one again. It's amazing
  8. I purchased a Bushnell Z6 refurbished and it has been great! Price was right as well. I highly recommend buying refurbished and saving money.

I have to agree with Craig D on this one. I had the Garmin G6 in the beginning and had no issues. It was nice to see the course layout etc. And for some reason I later purchased the Bushnell V3 Jolt and I've been using it every since and actually sold my G6 to a friend. I love it and like Craig said, it's perfect for practice area especially the driving range since they move the tee boxes all the time.

IMO, Bushnell is the way to go.

    Grindelwald,

I've got the Bushnell Pro 1M
It is slightly big, but you get every pin, no matter how far it is.

I also heard that the V4 would be perfect, as it is slightly smaller

I have a Bushnell GPS watch that gives me a rough idea on yardage but I wanted more than that. I believe that laser range finders are spot on accurate and I bought a Leupold 2xi which is a fantastic range finder. It uses a logarithm to calculate what club to use or if your between clubs when you punch in your distance with your 8,6 and 4 iron. You also can plug in your altitude and temperature for more accuracy. This is all done with easy instruction set up. It calculates slope also to give you a true golf range that can be turned off for tournament play. When you use the laser you see the TGR in bold numbers and the laser range in smaller numbers at the bottom of the screen. It is accurate to plus or minus 18 inches. It also gives a jolt when locked on to a prism flag stick.

We have 2 Bushnells and recommend them. Great quality.....that said, I still reach for a yardage book if the course has them.

Yardage books help me navigate courses that I don't know...the Bushnel helps dial in the pin distance.

I've got a 3 year old Bushnell V2, but am looking to upgrade to a V4 or Tour X. I like the slope option for everyday rounds, particularly for courses you also play tournaments on. When you turn off the slope feature for those tournaments, you can still be pretty confident of the "playing" distance due to all the times you played those holes with slope turned on. I am not sure of the Leupold capabilities, having never used one, but I can say Bushnell makes a great product.

When choosing, certainly take into account the "jolt" technology the Bushnell has, which can be very helpful, particularly on windy days or from uneven stances. But also consider the magnification level. 6X is almost like looking through a good set of binoculars. It's amazing how much this can help. For example, shooting the back of a front greenside bunker which looks to the naked eye from 150 out as though, if you can just clear it, you will land on the green. However, with the magnification you can see that there is actually about 10 or 12 yards of rough before the green. Well, that is pretty important to know. You can't necessarily see that from 150 yards out, but with 5X or 6X magnification, it can be like your are looking from 25-30 yards away. To me, magnification capabilities are extremely important, in addition to the "jolt" technology. I am sure the Leupold has good magnification properties as well, but make sure before making any decision.

I know its an old one but I still swear by the Bushnell Pinseeker 1500. Incredibly accurate, great battery life, durable and easy to use. Seen them around for very reasonable prices.

I went with the Bushnell Tour v3 simply because of cost. I looked at the Leupolds but the Patriot Pack Bushnell was $250. I've always wanted one because I feel like a lot of the courses I go to are slightly off yardage wise and it's perfect for the range. I also just started caddying at Conway Farms part time and having that thing is a life saver. Thanks for all the advice!

I use the Bushnell Tour X, quick response and the jolt lets you know when you've locked in.
