Should PGA tour players be allowed to wear shorts for your events. If so how much

Let me know what you think, Nate

I may be old school but I would say no. Cant imagine Nicklaus working long irons at The Masters in shorts

Jack would not wear shorts even if allowed. He is old school. I am prone to not allowing Pros to wear shorts while playing in tournaments. Even when they are just practicing I think they look strange.

Old school here also. I don't wear shorts when I golf either.

Some things should be left alone. I say no shorts.

To add to what I said earlier....

Leave the game alone. I’m all for improving and advancing, but somethings are good they way they are. I appreciate the way golf is with its current dress code.

My vote is no. There are some traditions in this sport I don't feel should change.

It would take some getting used to, but I think they should be able to. If I can do it, why can't they? From someone who lives in the Southeast and has played East Lake in mid-June in 90+ heat, let them wear shorts. I would have melted in pants and they have to do that every day.

I think it has a lot to do with the time of the year and the temperatures. A tournament in Memphis, Charleston, or Hilton Head in June, July or August, absolutely. Look at some of the outfits that are worn on the LPGA. No uniformity. consistent
  11. The way that some people wear shorts, or what might pass as shorts, I can't see it promoting our game in a good light.
Royal & Awesome or John Daly anybody??
It's taken years to move away from some of the truly awful golfwear of the past. Let's not go back to that.
You can imagine the rules that would be dreamt up to "legislate" what could be "approved" for Tour wear.
Anyway, most blokes have dreadful legs... legs that deserve to remain hidden by long pants!

  12. I say yes but it depends on the event because in some tournaments it reaches temperatures where it is crazy to wear pants it would take sometime to get use to and all the majors especially the masters should have to wear pants and for those people saying it looks unprofessional look at it this way a guy in a suit is professional looking but he usually works in a building with air conditioning the clothes should be worn for the work environment.

LOL. On a trip to southern England, I had a round in Wales on the Roman Road. It was in the 90's. I wore long pants and proper golf shoes. So much for the stiff upper lip. I was the only person on course not in shorts and one of a very few US tourists. I do still think shorts should not be denim and no holes, and the shirts should have collars. No matter how buff I look in a TT t-shirt.

They are called Professionals for a reason. Weather aside, it just looks classy.

i think shorts are okay for pro am's and practice rounds at the beginning of the week
  16. I would say no, I don't like making drastic changes, golfers in shorts would be like the Yankees deciding to get rid of the pinstripes. Some things were never meant to be changed.
  17. I think shorts are fine for some tournaments as long as the players keep they're shirts tucked in with belts etc.

Personally I prefer to golf in pants - not sure why - just do. That said when it get's really hot I think everyone (tour pros included) should have the option to be as comfortable as possible. Golf is evolving (see recent rules changes) - I would expect this "rule" (or is it really just tradition??) to change in due course. Don't see a lot of Plus 4's any longer …..

It should be optional depending on the conditions. They're starting to wear untucked shirts and Tiger and Reed have shirts without collars. What's the difference. Baseball players wear their pants 6 different ways and it's called a uniform, the word meaning all the same.
  21. I'm OK withTour players wearing proper golf shorts-no cargo shorts !

I say for practice rounds shorts are fine. When tournament play starts, it's pants. Looks more professional and traditional.

I think of it as a uniform. Pants should stay and all shirts should have collars. I understand how in the amateur world there might be a relaxing of the rules, but the professional game and image should not be eroded like so many other things in our society.
