Winn Excel RF are a soft grip. Seems like I remember they offer a black and tan color options.

Tom, not trying to be harsh but thumbs should be minimally impacted in your swing. You might consider having a pro look at your hand position on the grip. I too suffer from degenerative joint arthritis and went to AMT Red graphite shafts. No one specific finger was getting worse, more collectively in all joints including the wrist and elbows. Lots of people go to thicker, soft grips but I like a thin grip so I have been reluctant to try the oversize grip solution. The doctor also has me on meds that have helped. Some folks swear by the very soft Winn grips but you will need to change them more often as they tend to wear holes quickly at any pressure points. Dale, the only thing teaching pros seem to like about my game is my grip :-) , but it's certainly possible a bad habit crept in so I'll have it checked out. The June issue of Golf magazine had a short article about my "thumb issue" making me think I'm not alone, which prompted me to seek advice from the TT community. Thanks for the help!

Certainly wouldn’t change the way you grip if you have had it looked at before and the pro liked it. A change might give you pain relief but create other issues. Probably wise to go down the path of softer grips. Hopefully this will be a single finger issue and not the beginning of what I have to deal with. Hey, at least we are still getting to play. The Winn Dri Tac are soft and absorb shock nicely, however, is not very durable. I switched from those to Golf Pride CP2 pro and find them to fit the bill for what you're looking for.

Having carpal tunnel in my right hand and weakened grip strength due to it, +1 for Winn grips, specifically DriTac. Been using them for years and won't use anything else.

Dale is right, they do wear faster, but I'll trade regripping more often over pain. Full disclosure, I do my own regripping, so I don't mind.
