The 15th hole at Carriage Greens plays a little longer than the 178 yards posted. I was joined by two others who had not played the course recently, and mentioned It to them. When I walked to the elevated tee box, I was carrying my driver and my last personalized ball that I had received from my brother-in-law on my 60th birthday.
I just hoped to get the ball on the green. When I hit the ball, it had a low flight and bounced just before the green and started to roll toward the hole. The hole was toward the back of the green, and my friend said excitedly, “It’s going right to the hole! I think it’s in the hole! I’ve never seen one before! It’s either in the hole or at the back of the green.”
I was excited but not convinced it was in the hole. My two friends were just off the green and I waited to walk on the green. I couldn’t see the ball, and walked around the back of the green first before going to the pin.
When I walked toward the pin, I suddenly felt anxious and looked in to see my ball resting against the flag pole. I yelled, “It’s in the hole!” My friend was more excited than me and yelled across the course, “He just got a hole-in-one. Leave it there let me get a picture!”
We took a picture of me reaching in to retrieve the ball. I then took the ball out and realized that it was one of the balls John, my brother-in-law had given me. John had passed away last year and loved the game of golf. They say golf is a game of generations and special moments. This was one for me.
