19 September 2023,
I have been golfing for 18 years. In that time, I have hit my share of par's, birdies, and a couple eagles. However, the one thing that eluded me was a hole in one. I decided to go on vacation and play as many golf courses as possible. On that fateful day I had already played two courses and I settled on playing a third course, Madison Golf Course in Peoria Illinois. The round was relatively uneventful, pars and bogeys. I was playing as a single. I reached hole 14. I saw four gentlemen on the green and judging from how my day was going I determined that they were out of my range. I teed up and swung. I watched my ball take a subtle arch first to the left, edging the line of the fairway, and then come down in the center of the fairway. The ball took a large bounce and then a smaller bounce. Then I saw one of the guys and the green raise his hands, I thought that I accidentally hit one of them. I raced up to the green in the golf cart and emphatically apologized only for the foursome on the green to tell me that the ball went in; hole in one ALBATROSS on a 287 yard par 4.
