We played George Dunne National in Oak Forest IL on Sunday. It was a beautiful day but very windy day. So far it was too bad. We pulled up to the third hole. Wind was really blowing left to right. My playing partner Jeff went before me. He tried to compensate for the wind and went too far left. The yardage was about 130 yards, which is normally an easy pitching wedge. But the way the wind was blowing I chose a 9 iron. I aimed about a yard left of the hole and let it fly. I struck it clean, precisely on my chosen line and it performed as expected. It floated in the air for a minute, landed and after a little roll….it disappeared. Everybody on the tee went berserk. It was actually an exhilarating feeling. I NEVER thought it would happen.
