For my 40th birthday, I played The 500 Club in Phoenix AZ. It was a nice Wednesday morning, mid to high 70s. We had two foursomes, me, my pops and 6 of my buddies. The round started off a little strange, they had us start on 10 instead of 1. I played the first 9 ok for myself, shot a 46. My goal is always to shoot under a 100. The back nine was going similar to the front 9, maybe a worse. Was having some good drives but couldn’t make a putt (I’m sure you can relate). The round was about finished, we were on 17 (actually 8), 171 yard par 3. The previous par 3 that was 162 I used a 7 iron and was long, so I thought might as well use the same club. Tee’d it low and swung my 7 fully. My buddy says “that’s going to be short and then we didn’t see it. I had a feeling/goosebumps and thought I heard a sound but didn’t want to get my hopes up because I’ve seen that before. I was half expecting it to be long but as we drove up to the green and there was no ball on the green or long, I knew, and sure enough. My first hole-in-one, and on my 40th birthday, couldn’t have been better.
