  1. Well, the teams are finalized. Thoughts on picks?

It's going to be a great Ryder Cup. I'll be looking forward to watching Spieth and Walker. Although they're Ryder Cup rookies, I think that they'll handle things very well. Mahan and Simpson were good picks.

Not too much longer and it'll be here. I'm very excited about this one!

I'm actually surprised by the Simpson pick, not a very good year for him but as Watson said "experience" was the key factor in selecting him.

Euro has a very strong team this year..  It'll be an interesting cup for sure...

  3. I agree on Mahan!

Several US Team members were in the thick of it during the Open Championship.  The weather will be worse but there is a perception that American's can't handle the poor playing conditions.  Hopefully Ricky, Mahan, JF, Spieth, Walker & KB can continue the success from the Open Championship.  PM has done it before and just needs to get his mind right.  Being an underdog should be a great position for the US team hopefully they can capitalize on that and get the team fired up.  It's going to be a battle and should be fun!!!

KB and Mahan I was expecting, but Simpson was a bit of a surprise.  I am certainly looking forward to this event, it is one of my favorites to watch due to the team aspect and the emotion involved.  Team USA is going to have a difficult road this year in the face of a strong European team, but it will be exciting to watch for sure!

I like the 3 picks although I would not have been too bummed if he had selected a younger player like a CK but I can see TW's logic going with all vets as his Capt's picks as we do have a couple first timers who qualified thru points.

Gonna be tough but we have the talent to pull off an upset.

  7. After the Tour Championship, I tell you what...I think that Horschel would've been an interesting pick. He has that "fire" you need for the Ryder Cup. His ball striking, recovery shots, putting...everything was looking good. Plus, I believe that they said he's shot in the 60's 12+ straight rounds. He may be on his game later on in the season. 35th on the list isn't bad at all. If anything, if he keeps playing well, maybe we'll see him in the 2016 Ryder Cup.

I keep thinking about it...the European team is amazing. It's kind of like "David and Goliath". I'm definitely rootn' for the USA team. I know how bad they want to win and bring the Cup "home" to us. It's definitely going to be a "nail biter"!

I know this is probably going to be met with much skepticism and second guessing but in my opinion, too much emphasis is placed on: #1 - the selection of the captain and #2 - his picks.

The Ryder Cup is about those players who have played well enough to represent their country and have done that over a long term.  The top $ winners if you will.  No reason to second guess a pick because "they're a good partner for this guy" or "someone who has done well in the past although their current form is not up to par".   More emphasis should be placed on the TEAM and they should decide who they want to represent them as Captain.

Not to point fingers at the Captain's picks this year, but would the US team be less talented if they went with the top money winners?  That would also remove the questioning of "why did he pick him?"

One more point, the final money winner list should be made AFTER the Tour Championship Final so the players playing at the top of their games are included.

Okay......I know it's an idea that differs from tradition but it's just an opinion.  And yes, i know everybody has one...LOL.

I like the Mahan pick, he's been playing well. Thought KB was good pick for Phil. At first I was surprised of the Simpson pick, however like the KB pick, Web is a close friend of Bubba and they had a lot of success in the Presidents Cup when paired together, team USA needs the long hitting Bubba to play well & Web might be the guy to keep Bubba feeling comfortable & focused. So I thought the pick's were well thought out by Captain Watson with so many players playing great golf in the FedEx cup playoffs. Spieth & Fowler as well as Mahan & KB would make an interesting Saturday afternoon pairing when resting some of the older veterans like PM & JF for the singles.

I know they give the guys nearly two years to gain points to make the Team, but what about guys who were hot long ago, but have faltered the last 6 months? Why not take the guys that are playing the best the last 5 months prior to the Ryder Cup. Pick the top 6 and then 6 captain picks of those who can be leaders or who are playing good, not great but have good Match play records. PICK THE TWELVE BEST going into the event, not the best from the previous 20-24 months. Just thinking
  11. Mr. Bishop, P.G.A., did make a statement saying that changes could be coming, as far as the Ryder Cup goes. I'm anxious to see what, if anything, they have in mind.

I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure they changed it a couple of years ago so there are more points awarded to events closer to the Ryder Cup.

At the end of the day it didn't matter who qualified or was picked.  Trading out any of the captains picks wouldn't have erased a 5 point deficit.

Great team bad placement on the pairings. I hate to blame this one solely on Tom, but not looking for input from the team may have bit him in the end.  This is one event that requires a cohesive team and the US just wasn't there this year.

  14. As I'm sure that many of you know by now, the P.G.A. is seriously looking into MANY various options/changes, when it comes to the captain/players, selection process.
