It hard to believe that just after a couple of weeks since Jordan Spieth won the FedEx Cup that a new season has begun.  I'm personally not a fan of the wrap-around season, but the first tournament, the Fry's.com Open is in my hometown of Napa so I'll be out there this weekend supporting it.  I look forward to seeing Titleist out there!  What does everyone else think of the PGA Tour format?

I like it because golf never stops. BUT, it is very different.....

I can't say that I'm a big fan of the PGA Tour season in it's current condition. I like the idea of a large break in between seasons, it makes me look forward to the opening event. The way it is now, it's like Golf never goes away, and I almost think there's some kind of desperation in that.

I agree. Wouldn't mind seeing a break in tournaments from the end of October to the middle of January/beginning of February. Other sports build anticipation in the offseason. With golf it's like "oh hey, good job, Spieth, on winning the playoffs. The new season starts next week!"

I always appreciated a little break. I thought it built up anticipation for the upcoming season when you had a month or two to think abou it. I'm really enjoying the European tour finals now as well. It would be cool if the Euro tour, PGA, and LPGA could collaborate a little to cover golf year round between them. That might have some benefit to everyone as well.

I actually had a very "spirited" Facebook conversation about this with some folks after B. WY's comments about the Wrap-Around came out. What a lot of folks don't understand is just how biased the current format is towards the young talent. The older pros used to cherish what little offseason they got: time for family, recovery, etc. But love of money has won out in this situation. By giving the events that used to constitute the "Fall Series" Fed-Ex Cup status, I'm assuming the Tour has brought in more sponsorship $$$. But at what expense? ... And does anybody get excited for Kapalua anymore at this point? I remember the thrill when the commercials used to start airing just after Christmas. But now it just feels like any other event.

I personally don't see how this is so much different than past years.  At least from a fans point of view, it's better.  It's not like these events weren't being played before.  In the past people watched to see who would make the top 125.  Now people watch because there are significantly stronger fields.

From the player's perspective, I can see where they wouldn't want to get behind.  But I think if they properly manage their schedule through the whole year, it shouldn't be a problem.  The players who "need" to play in these fall events to keep their card, weren't playing much (if at all) in the FedEx playoffs.  And, after this event, the only PGA Tour events in the next 7 weeks that mean anything are the Hero Challenge and the Tournament of Champions.  Again, if you are good enough to be playing in the Hero Challenge and/or the Tournament of Champions, you probably don't need to play the fall events anyway.

Taking this back to B W, before playing 4 fall events, he hadn't played since the first week of September.  After this week, he'll have almost 8 weeks to rest until the next PGA Tour event.  So he had over 5 weeks off before the fall season and over 7 weeks off after the fall season.  I'm having a lot of trouble understanding why that's a problem.

I don't mind the nonstop golf. Living in Michigan I can't really golf throughout the winter, so it's nice being able to get my golf fix in by watching some PGA golf.

I just hope none of the guys who teed it up in the hero world complain about their schedule being too full.
