It all comes down to this.
Just one event left in the race for the FedEx Cup remains as Team Titleist makes their final preparations before this week’s Tour Championship – where the leaderboard is stacked with the names of the world’s best.
Heading into the week, we caught up with our team on the Titleist Tour Truck to get an inside look at what players will have in the bag this week – from a look at the red-hot Scotty Cameron putter that Patrick Cantlay used to outlast his opponent in a 6-way playoff last week at Caves Valley, to a full breakdown of Cameron Smith’s bag.
Patrick Cantlay
In case you missed the final round and extra holes of last week’s BMW Championship, here’s one thing to take away: Patrick Cantlay can putt.
Last week at Caves Valley, he set an all-time PGA Tour record of 14.6 strokes gained on the field on the putting green – the most of any player on the PGA Tour (since tracking began in 2004).
He also set a season long record of 537 ft of putts made, the most of by any player on the PGA Tour in a single tournament this season by 30 ft. He then followed that up with an extra 33 ft of putts made in extra holes – closing out the event with a #clutch 18 foot putt for birdie to earn the number one position heading into this week’s finale.
His gamer? A Scotty Cameron Phantom X Tour Prototype putter. Hear what he had to say about his switch into a mallet earlier this year.
Cameron Smith
Starting the week ranked fifth on the FedExCup rankings, Cam Smith comes to East Lake in search of the ultimate title.
Equipped with a bag full of Titleist equipment, we wanted to get the inside scoop on what’s in his bag and why he plays it. Hear from our team on the Titleist Tour truck as they talk us through his setup.
Justin Thomas
More speed, more forgiveness.
It's exactly what Justin Thomas was looking for while working with Director of Tour Promotions, J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, upon switching out of his trusted TS3 Driver into a TSi2 driver earlier this Spring.
Hear from J.J. on why JT made the switch and what he likes most about the model he'll be gaming this week at East Lake.
Tony Finau
Also at the top of the leaderboard at East Lake this week is Titleist Golf Ball loyalist Tony Finau, who won the first Playoff event a few weeks back at Liberty National – his second PGA Tour title.
Finau plays the Pro V1 Left Dot – a Custom Performance Option (CPO) that possesses offers lower launch and long game spin while still delivering the same greenside spin and control as the Pro V1.
CPO’s, like Left Dot, are a category of golf balls specifically offered to Tour players to fit specific flight, spin and feel variations of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x. This past week, a limited release of Pro V1 were available on Titleist.com for amateurs to test.
“I love the [Pro V1] Left Dot. I’ve played a lot of my best golf when the wind blows, and it’s a big part to the golf ball. It’s very stable – crosswinds, downwind, into the wind, I seem to get proper numbers with it. I just love the stability of the golf ball through the wind, and that low spin factor is huge for me off the tee,” said Finau.
