As the days get shorter and opportunities to play become fewer, I’ve been reviewing my game this past year. While lack of rounds and practice time was the biggest bane to my game this year, my putting was hands down my weakest link.
I’ve just returned from a four day weekend in Myrtle Beach, where I struck the ball as well as I have all season, only to be let down by my putting. One round in particular, I hit 15 greens in regulation, with maybe 10 legitimate birdie chances. While I won’t complain about the 3 I converted, I did have 3 three-putts. This is the story of my game in 2018.
I’ve had many putters over the years, and while I won my club championship using a California Fastback, I feel most comfortable putting with mallets. In the past, whenever I’ve shopped/bought a putter, it’s been after demoing a few in some showroom and selecting what I thought felt good and rolled well. But I’ve never had someone evaluate my putting stroke to at least point me in the right direction.
I totally understand and accept the Indian not the arrow argument, but I’d like to know how the TT community selects their putters. FWIW, my miss is typically leaving the ball short. I’m thinking a heavier putter may be on the horizon, but just not sure which one.
