Center shaft minority

  1. I feel like I am in the vast minority owning and only playing center shafted putters. Why ?

Even on the Scotty FB page, everyone shows their standard heel shafts - are that that many folks with a swing path that is not straight back- straight through- minimal arc ?

I've got a rare center shaft Newport 2 prototype that I've had for quite a while. However, I don't put it in play very often.

I love the center shaft putters. Wish Scotty would make more of them.

I also enjoy a center shaft putter ..seems we are in a minority when it comes to putter shaft types..

I love a center shaft putter. I'm not one who has "back up" clubs but if he ever released a center shafted Notchback I'd buy multiples
  7. I have a png center shaft mid mallet that currently is in my back-up bag. It seems like every time I pull it out and stand over a putt the face seems a bit closed. Has anyone else noticed this or am I looking through the wrong pair of eyes? Thanks

They outlawed CS putters early in the rules of the game, so I figure it must be a advantage. Also the mallet CS is almost full proof. I think are are easier to aim. Cameron Futura X CS.

I am using the 2012 GoLo S. Absolutely love it and can't see myself changing any time soon.
  10. Everytime i try a regular heel shafted putter, it just never feels right .. I have an old school Nicklaus style where i bend pretty far over the ball and give a clean smooth shoulder roll...
I'm very happy with my GoLO 5 and would like to get another newer model, but so few selections until you get into the wild Futura / Phantom models which look too big.
Ive tried the new miz model, and a few bettinardi's - not sure they would live up to the scotty standards.

I have a center shaft GOLO and I don’t use it full time because I have a hard time with lag putts over 15ft with it. For me though putts inside 10ft it is so nice. If I start missing short putts it gets put into my bag until I start long putting poorly then I switch back to a custom Newport. Crazy cycle.

For the last 20+ years, I've been hooked on CS putters. SeeMore was my first, but after falling in love with the simpleness of "straight back-straight forward", I knew I wanted a Scotty. I feel as they're easier to line up, and it keeps the stroke minimal. I've got my Scotty Newport 2.6 as "old faithful", but when it doesn't behave (or I get a "wild hair") I break out the Futura 5S.
  13. I have owned the Newport 2.6. Beautiful concept and with a small plumbers neck might be ok. But the straight shaft it just did not perform for me.

I have a Newport 2.6 as my backup stick. My gamer is a Newport 2 lol. Don't ask me how that works, I just feel comfortable with either one. I'd say I may be a little better on the shorties with the 2.6 but I 3-jack less with the NP2. That's just how I feel. Also, I'm probably a head case so...
  15. Several years ago I went to see Byron Morgan (RIP). Got a fitting and ordered one of his center shafted blades. Changed my putting forever. Byron suggested CS, and said he didn't understand why they were not more popular.

Would love to find a decent Newport 2.6.

BTW, if you're not familiar with Byron, a loooong time ago he and Scotty worked together.

I was big into the CS for a long time thinking I had a straight back straight through stroke. Lately I had been pulling a lot of putts missing everything to the left. I was at an iron fitting in December and was messing around with the putters after. I went straight to the CS and continued to miss left. The fitter gave me a plumbers neck and I drained 3 in a row from 10ft. I have since traded in the CS for a Super Select Newport 2+. Two birdies and a long par save in the first 9 with it.
I guess the key point here is get fit for every club in the bag.
  17. If anyone has influence with Scotty Cameron would you please encourage him to bring out a centre shafted version of his new GoLo range. There are several prominent Tour players using centre shafted Scottys and I believe I have seen at least one on TV using a prototype GoLo model

I have always used and currently have several Centre shafted (and other) Scottys... a GoLo S5 (normal gamer), a GoLo S5 with Stability shaft, a GoLo S black mist and a Newport 2.6 black mist. I bought a centre shafted Phantom X5S when it came out and found it great with short to mid range puts but wasn't mad about the shape or way it sat on the ground and I just couldn't handle long puts on slow greens with it so I sold it. I would love to try a new modern centre shafted GoLo which I feel could be more forgiving on off centre hits than the older model.

I had a Golo CS from the mid 2000's and sold it....kicking myself to this day...
  19. Just recently found a Newport 2.6! Very excited. Have not had it on the course yet, but I love rolling it on my practice mat. It is really, really nice. And, it looks brand new. The headcover appears unused, and only the sole of putter shows any wear. May have been an "inside" club?

I still love my Byron CS putter as well, but now I have a choice! The 2.6 is the black PVD finish, while the Byron is manganese bronze, so two different looks.

Anyway, that Newport 2.6 gets me to an all Titleist bag...
  20. I played a center shafted Never Compromise for YEARS. It took a lot of convincing to get me to switch from it and a lot of work to get adjusted to the new feel, but I have been in love with my Newport 2 ever since I got accustomed to it. Fell so in love with it I started restoring SCs and have upgraded to a different custom newport 2. I still keep the Never Compromise around for nostalgia though. Always a fan.

I absolutely love center shaft putters. The first one I ever had was a SeeMore Si3 that I wish I never would have sold.

After doing a putter fitting I was told I should use a heel shafted putter for my arcing stroke but out just doesn't feel as natural as a center shaft. I have a Toulon Indianapolis CS that I'll never get rid of that I might put back in the bag. I've never owned a Scotty CS, I might have to look around for one to try out.

I have a Phantom 6 STR, which is ok but a bit soft feeling due to the aluminum insert piece. I also have other nearly face balanced Scottys including a Studio Select 2.7 (bend shaft) that has been a go to, and a Phantom 5 custom ordered for length and weight. I'm still experimenting with this one (I've had it for a couple winters but am having a hard time displacing the SS 2.7). It should be better than the 2.7 on longer putts, right?
  23. There is an increasing number and now quite a few male and female Pros using CS putters, often Scotty GoLo or prototype CS models. It is certainly a niche but significant market, and I cannot understand why Scotty Cameron have not brought out a modern CS GoLo or fastback model. I would love to see a new black CS GoLo model at normal Scotty pricing.
