I think practicing is good enough, but an option could be to take your primary set and leave them in your hotel room (assuming you stay over while gone) during the day.
When I traveled for work I usually took my clubs and never had an issue leaving them in the room while at work.

Agree with Barry. That's what I would do. The extensive heat in the trunk can melt the epoxy on the shafts and cause the heads to come loose. If you do not want to take all you clubs, work out a rotation. One week take you odd number clubs and the next week take your even number clubs. Then then next week your wedges, or something to make it interesting so you do have to take all your clubs with you. Always take you putter. That's your money club.

I agree whole-heartedly with Chuck Z, that's what I would have recommended. I tend to split range days into long and short clubs. I'll split my back at the 6.5 club (short days take 7-58deg, long days take 6-driver). Roughly same number of clubs each day depending on how my bag is set up at the time, and keeps from over-wearing any particular range of clubs. That being said, Chuck's odd-even system would serve the same purpose, and might be a better system for working on a range of shot setups... may have to give that a try.

I'm a highly routine based guy and would probably have some kind of breakdown if I were practicing with clubs other than those that I play with (not to say my quirks are anything on which to base a personal decision).

Yes, do not leave your clubs in the trunk or garage. I have a separate bedroom for 3 sets of clubs.
