Safe to use driver/3woods in cold weather?

    First off, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the Titleist staff and Team Titleist members! I have a question that may have been answered in the past but couldn’t find in the forums. I upgraded my driver and 3 wood to a TS2 and love them this season. Now that I’m playing in sub 50 degree weather I worry the cold can damage my investment. Luckily I kept my old driver and 3 wood and use them to play it safe, but was wondering what you all know and think? Does the cold leave us open to potential damage or that is just my paranoia? Do you have a winter set and a summer set separate? Love to hear thoughts, facts, and opinions from everyone!

    Like my Prov1, which I play the year round, I do the same with my fitted clubs. No reason to change!!! I want the same feel throughout the year, regardless of the weather. We played Monday and on one of our par threes which was 155 yards, and we were playing into a three club club wind and out came my 21 degree hybrid to get it 28 feet from the pin. We were playing closest to the pin and the first one on the list was ninety feet from the flag. Yes I won the closest. Back to the question, play the same the year round. Why change the equipment, learn new shots and how to play your equipment. With respect. Cheers.

    Hi,

    Sub 50 is not very cold in terms of freezing. I am in Minnesota and we played last week with a high of 34. The ground was frozen and you could not stick a tee in the ground. One guy even hit a ball off of a frozen pond. We still used our normal drivers and woods. I would not recommend hitting the ground or playing any balls you find as they are frozen rocks also dont keep your clubs in the car. If you are just in the 40s and the ground is not frozen I do not believe you should have any issues at all.

    There shouldn't be any issues using the club in cold weather... The guys and ladies across the pond play in cold conditions regularly and Ive yet to see and posts or videos of clubs malfunctioning in the deep freeze!

    If you're used to seeing divots you could hide a golf cart in, it could be an issue when the temps get down to 40 or lower. Also, keep a ball in your pocket and switch it out often. Saves the shock of hitting what feels like a rock. If the ground is frozen, bring a few cut pieces of 3/8" hose and set them on the ground in lieu of tees. Bright color if you can find it. Otherwise I would get a summer and winter set. Titleist will love you for it and maybe they will send me some swag for the recommendation.

    I've always played over the winters as long as the courses are open. Even in barely above freezing temps and snow squalls. Never had a problem with any of my Titleist equipment in cold weather.

    I wouldn’t worry about the cold weather. Clubs are designed to work in all conditions and Titleist will always stand behind their products if an issue should arise.

    Never seen a problem with a club... just be sure not to hurt your hands if you're normally a big divot taker! With the ground being extra hard, the hands can take a beating.

    yeah I don't see it being an issue. I wouldn't leave clubs in freezing or extremely hot areas i have some friends that leave their bags in their car year round.

    Hit it...but remember the game is different in the winter. It's colder and the ball doesn't fly as well. Also your swing probably will not be the same as you will be layered up to keep warm. Have fun and don't be discouraged about the score. Just be happy you're able to be in the outdoors playing the game you love...

    I spent quite a bit of time in Europe when I was stationed over there and the winters can be pretty cold. I have been playing Titleist equipment for the last 20 years and I have never had any issues with cold weather. Now I also don't leave my clubs in my car either. You have nothing to worry about, enjoy playing while you can and stay warm and have fun!

    I'm from Canada and I have hit balls at 30 degrees F quite a few times over each winter at an outdoor range that stays open all year round. The balls don't go as far due to ball hardness and thicker cooler air but we have never considered not using our normal clubs. I have never heard anyone I've played with express concerns about their clubs so go ahead and play your regular clubs no matter how cold it gets.
