  1. Going to Cabot cliffs, and links in a couple weeks. Never been before. Anyone who’s ever played there have any insight on planning or cool things to check out while I’m there. Let me know thanks. #teamtitleist

The two tracks are epic, think Bandon Dunes on the east coast. One thing I wish I would have brought with me was 'squito repellant.

Steve Rooks and I went a while back. We flew into Halifax and rented a car. Nice drive up but a little bit long. Once there, we mainly stayed on property. There was a nice bar/ restaurant across the street. We walked over and got a bite to eat. Definitely a must-do trip for anyone that has not been, especially those doing all the Keiser properties.

The rooms were also great, with a great view on the Links side, but the views on the Cliffs side are amazing. The even had a barn sell down the road and we got to pick out some good deals on merch. Highly recommended and a must go at least once. My clubs arrive much later than I did and the staff let me use a rental set and brought mine out on the course during our first round. Great Staff, you'll love it!

Great place. The Cliffs course is one of my all time favorite courses. Great beer. Seems each area has their own brand. We ate at a little eaterie across the street from the resort that had the best turkey sandwiches (real turkey). Loved watching the eagles soar down the coast as we play golf. Kinda easy to get caught up in the beauty of the landscape and remember that you are actually on a golf course. It has been a few years. We went up in the fall before the course was officially open to the public. It is a true golf destination. Unless things have changed, nearest big town is three hours away. Everything we did was at the resort, ate, drank, and play golf. Two courses. The Canadian sunset is something to behold.

  6. Assuming you will have a car, here are some suggestions within a couple hours of Inverness.

Definitely take a day trip up to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It is a spectacular drive, especially the west side, and has a lot of hiking for all abilities. A couple easy hikes to check out include the Skyline Trail (sweeping ocean views and maybe a whale sighting) and Bog Trail (interesting trail through native plants and a good place to look for moose).

Stop into the pub at Glenora Distillery for live music and local whisky and/or the Brook Village grocery for grilled cheese and ice cream. The Red Shoe Pub is a local institution that has also live music and solid food.

There isn't much in the way of fine dining, but Woodroad in Maragree is the exception. I had a really great experience there, but they aren't open until late May and you definitely need reservations.

If you need more golf, Cape Breton Highlands Links is a unique and historic course, but a couple hours away so it requires a little planning. Le Portage is a little closer and looked decent, although I did not play there.

It is also fun to walk along Inverness beach. There is a boardwalk that goes right along the links course where you can watch some players hit shots on a few holes and the beach is right below it.

As far as Cliffs and Links, a couple things to be aware of: the driving range is located at the Cliffs course and there is no range at Links, so plan some extra time to get from the range to the links course. I'd suggest getting a caddy, although both courses are pretty easy walks. Cliffs especially has some tricky lines off the tee and many of them are locals that have interesting stories and could use the work.

Definitely get a caddie. When we played there, only choice. I had one that had worked on the Canadian tour for over twenty years. Was same age as me and we blended real well. We shared some homebrew from SC along the way for two days. Was in my flask in my golf bag. Whew, guess I was lucky. Holly grail for Canadians. The two guys from FJ home office thought it tasted like kerosene. Hakuna matata.
  8. Courses incredible. We flew in via Sydney and rented car. Way shorter drive than Halifax.

I’m sure you know golf is walk only. We golfed without caddy. Same day second round half price. Cart requires doctor note and caddy must be used.

Mid June weather can be quite changeable so make sure to have good layering and waterproof gear along. We had three seasons during our rounds. (Hot/Cold/driving rain/calm, horrible wind). Typical true links.

    Decent food at clubhouse.

My gear never showed up til we left (thank you Air Canada) so I’d consider Ship Sticks. TM P770, Stealth 2 + rental was available. Likely updated for this year.

Was great to golf there but if I had to recommend a superior true golf vacation for next time I’d choose PEI. Way less money, beautiful courses, super friendly, great variety of courses all in short driving distance. Not as spectacular but great golf. Super seafood (Richard’s lobster roll and New Glasgow Lobster highly recommended). Check out Golf PEI for help planning.

    Cheers and enjoy!
