I'm curious why the weight distribution from the SM6 and SM7 (higher cg with higher lofts) that was supposed to provide more consistent distances when contact was slightly higher on the face is not a carry over. What is the reason for going back to 'older school' design?

I have a feeling that it is still there just under the hood. It will be interesting to see all the details on the tech in the new SM8's as they get closer to launch.

Definitely curious on this. Not sure whether there might be some different tech to provide the same effect as the 'tiered' weighting, maybe by using tungsten or similar higher in the face?

I got a look at these yesterday. The weighting is all internal now to keep a cleaner sleeker look. They are using varying tip weights and hosel lengths depending on loft to achieve the same effect you got from the muscle on the back of the SM6 and SM7 wedges. Pitch and gap wedges have a shorter hosel with the tip weight placed lower. Lob wedges have a longer hosel length and heavier tip weight.

We will see the addition of the 12 bounce D grind in the 54 and 56 lofts this time around.

These things are sexy in person! March 7 launch is what I have heard.

Still playing my SM5 K grind and love it (not too obvious). Neither the 6 or 7 were comparable in performance. Looking forward to the SM8

Interesting. I found the opposite as far as performance. That's just me.

I played the Spin Milled 2009 version with the old-style square grooves which spun like crazy. I played many sets of them from 2009 until the SM6s were released back in '16 if memory serves. I tried the CCs, then the SM4s and SM5s, but kept going back to new 2009 versions that were still floating around the internet for sale. (I went through at least 3 or 4 sets of those 2009 version until I could no longer find new ones for sale at reasonable prices. Technically, they were still legal for those of us who weren't top level amateurs or pros. Those who had new ones to sell knew the demand was high and the availability low, so prices got a bit outrageous.) I finally bought the SM6s and loved their performance. After two sets of those, I moved to the SM7s and absolutely love those too. I almost bought another set of the 7s, but decided to wait to try the new SM8s in the Spring with the hope that they might be even better somehow.

It's great to see the pro's doing well with them too!

I want these so bad. I can’t wait to see them be available. I nearly ordered new wedges at my golf shop today and then decided it would be best to wait until these beautiful wedges are released to people like me

I got to hit these today and they are nice! I am going to wind up going with more bounce in the 54 and 58 then I have historically played. I am also going to toy around with a Vokey 48 rather than my T200 48. Time will tell.

Loving the addition of the D(illa) grind to 54. I can finally mix up the bounces to my preference.
