For me, the main reason for replacing the putter cover after each green is to avoid potential dings. I have a friend who takes his putter cover off during the round and places it in one of his bag's pockets; he doesn't want to lose the putter cover.

If you're confident that your putter head can avoid dings because of the putter well then I don't see the need to replace the putter cover after every green.

Cover stays on the putter.. Every player I play with does that, as most are using a Tour Scotty.... I did play with The Man-Scotty and he intentionally slammed the irons into the bag and wanted the dings on the putter. But, I guess when you're making the putter, you can do as you please!

Thats the only thing I tell a caddie.. Just hand me the (covered) putter when we get to the green!

I put my headcover back on after leaving the green. I replace the headcovers on my woods after every shot as well.

Seems to me if you leave the head cover off during the round, you're defeating the purpose of the head cover. Nothing wrong with doing so, but... One league I play in states as one of their hints to speed up play to leave ALL head covers off during the round, but I personally do not follow that.

As with most of the other people on this post I too put the cover on after I finished putting every hole.

I keep all my head covers on as much as possible to avoid any damages to the club heads.

I take my head cover off before I walk onto the green and put it back on once I have finished the hole. With my woods, I hit the shot then put it back on before putting the club back into my bag.

Haven't played with someone who doesn't use headcovers.

I replace my headcovers after each use. And, Like Peter D, I also haven't played with anyone that does use them.

Not sure why you wouldn't, the cover is there to protect the club. I keep mine on throughout the round.

My covers get replaced after each shot. Too many times way back when taking irons out of the bag would hit the metals and scratch. So covers remain on til the next shot.

Head covers on all the time when not playing a shot with the specific club (especially the putter). Had a caddie earlier this year that kept wanting to take the putter cover off. So, we had to have a conversation on what I wanted/expected.

You know... if your going to spend $400 on a putter, as I did, the head cover is on unless I’m putting. I plan to have my Scotty be an heirloom, I’ll pass it on to my son, it’s a club I use on every hole... better take good care of it!

The only club in my bag that I leave the head cover off during the round is my Tsi2 Driver. I don't have any clubs that would hit the face of it. I have iron covers that stay on during a round as I don't want dings & dents in my T200 irons face & grooves. My Scotty definitely has it cover on all the time unless I am putting. Make sense to me & it doesn't slow anything down.

I take the cover off prior to my shot with my irons & replace after I hit the shot. Then place club back in bag. I do place my Scotty cover in the putter well then walk to the green to putt, but I place it back on before putting club back in bag..

Guilty as charged, my headcover stays in the back of the golf cart. Now that I ride in cart all the time, my putter fits nicely in the putter well on both of my bags: Cart 14 and Tour Midsize. Never really give it any thought. When I use to walk and carry bag or push cart I always kept cover on putter due to clanging.

My putter headcover always goes back on the putter. Same with the fairway woods and the driver headcover.
If I'm very lazy I remove the Driver headcover for the entire round if I'm on a buggy.

I replace my putter cover as soon as I leave the green. Cost way to much for dings to the face. I do the same with my driver, 3 and two hybrids. Replace after I hit, clean of course first then replace.

I always replace my putter cover after every hole. At this point it is habit, but it is also to keep the putter in good shape. Anyone who doesn't is crazy in my opinion.

If you are worried about losing the putter cover, I would be even more worried about dinging/clanging.
