Started doing this abut 3 years ago as I struggled to get the ball to the hole at times. This drill during practice really freed my swing up. And yes, same exact results - made lots of long putts and line was better in general. It was almost comical.
I tried playing a full round this way and struggled. Never tried it again during play. Love it for practicing though.

I believe Nick Faldo in his prime would keep his head down after he hit the putt. Different strokes for different folks.
However the next time I'm on the putting green I will definitely try that. I tend to miss too many 2-3 ft putts.

Been a big fan of this method for shorter putts for years. lets you feel the stroke and creates far less tension.
  4. I'm going to have to give this a try. Thinking about it, it seems it would help avoid overthinking and second-guessing my line.

Ex hockey player here. I too look at the hole. With the exception of a slap shot, virtually every shot you take is looking at the target. Same for passing. I have picked up 2 or 3 strokes by looking at hole. I like keeping my upper arms lightly touching chest to make sure I stay on path.
